Did anyone catch the primiere last night? BJ Penn vs. Jens Pulver. Who do you think has the better fighters thus far? The first fight really suprised me. I didn't think the lanky dude could pull it off. He may be a great suprise fighter.
I think Penn suprisingly will be the better trainer, but Jens will be the better overall coach, if that makes sense.

Nope, it doesn't make sense.

It's practically impossible to predict who's gonna at this stage. You can tell from the first ep that they're already hyping up corey so i'm betting that he'll be in one of the last pre-lim fites.

Honestly I was expecting Pulver to pick out the guy who was over his weight and chew him up on first go but he got a pass (he better not waste it). I'm pulling for Penn just because some of the submissions I've seen him pull were amazing.

As far as the fighters go it's too early for me to see any standing out. Talking a good game does not equal fighting a good match to me.

Did anyone else think it looked like Corey was picking a fight with that guy for absolutely no reason (the one he was barking at)? It seemed like he was basically trying to be the black guy with attitude.

I'm for team BJ, I always choose before the show and before the teams are made. I really dont care much for either of them, I think BJ will drop him when they go at it.

Corey looks mean, they are building up this thursdays episode too, I bet he is fighting.

WHO SAW SERRA TKO GSP? WHO BET ON THAT? I wish I would have.

Mike Swick lost too, lame night. I still have not watched it, I may order it tonight, my hotel did not have PPV.

I havn't been posting in here because i was behind on TUF and going in here would spoil the show but anyway. Looking foward to the rest of the quarters and i'm tipping Gamburyan, lauzon, diaz and wiman to make the semis and the finals can go from there. Looking forward to UFC 71!

hahaha... we talked about this for a bit of time at the party I went to. nice catch on your part. yep,, i saw that and agree,,, I don't really dig it when you can tell somebody is trying to fill a role... it always feels a bit phoney..

Kinda like saying you didn't knock yourself out when you were a bag o potatoes.. what a fight night. weird really..

and that shoulder,,, I'd have a hard time picking up a fighter with my checkbook when he has the same injury two fights in a rtow... I rthough that was a bummer because manny has some spirit.

I hate the outcome.

First of all, Nate is a punk (and a total closet case - wayyyyy too sensitive on the whole suck it issue). Manny is a ball of steel with tons of heart and I absolutely did NOT want him to lose. Nate may have won, but he did not defeat Manny by any stretch of the imagination. He didn't even have the class to say he didn't want to win like that, he actually said he was glad it turned out like it did.

BJ and Jens -

They mutually didn't like each other, but BJ acted like he wanted the whole world to hate Jens, where Jens simply didn't like BJ. Jens had a much better attitude in general, especially how he treated his guys. He showed them much more respect, even after the whole childish hand raising stunt BJ pulled. I was so disappointed with the fight. I love the way Jens acted afterwards though. What a great attitude - I lost to him, now I want to learn from him- that is a much more honorable attitude.

are you a girl?

and you rcomment on the BJ thing,.,, very much in line with me... Jenns got beat spiritually and he knows thats what he is lacking... it's the roar wihtin,,,the Chi... oh so obvious with many MMA fighters-- ie:rampage

LOL, yes I'm a girl. In fact, I'm a girly girl - but I love watching a good fight.

I have much more respect for Pulver. I think he is a more honorable person then BJ, by far.

ultimately Pulver will be a far superior fighter because he knows, and does not long to be 'superior.' he has that street wisdom that will come thru.. But- Saturday night he lacked inner wisdom....

nice to meet you girly girl.

FF

I like Pulver the most, but as far as him being the superior fighter over BJ? No way. That will never happen. Pulver honsetly was lucky the first time he beat him. Good season though, Manny would have rocked Nick had it not been for the injury. Once he gets that fixed up, I'd expect to see Manny back and havin a title shot.

why don't you think pulver can be better? Penn has some extreme flexability, but what else does he have that pulver could not develop... other than national hero status!1 hahah you could be right.

Am I the only one that thinks that BJ and Pulver DIDN'T actually dislike each other? I mean come on, Dana and the UFC do a good job of making us believe that some people have an actual dislike for one another but it's all just for show. I mean, it wouldn't have been as interesting if BJ and Jens were on the show the whole time saying stuff like "oh yeah, he's my friend and I respect him alot etc etc." I'd even go as far as saying that Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz exaggerated their rival to what it was as well. The fight was a foregone conclusion before it started, an easy win for BJ.

I'm glad that Nate won this, but as yeah, it would've been better if it hadn't have ended the way it did. I've been a fan of Nick Diaz since he beat Robbie Lawler so, i wanted Nate to win (even if he is a punk). Manny will be back though, that's for sure.

How bout the Emerson/Maynard fight! Absolutely crazy

That was crazy. At first, I thought, what difference does it make if Gray passed out, Rob tapped - simple as that. But, they pretty much did happen simultaneously and neither fighter could continue. Maybe Gray really didn't remember going unconcious.

I've also wondered if some of the rivalries weren't a little amped up. I wouldn't go so far as to say they actually liked each other, but maybe the dislike wasn't quite as intense as they let on. BJ did seem to lay it on a bit thick. I mean, why would he dislike the guy that bad just b/c he lost to him? Did Pulver sleep with his sister or something?

Tito and Ken really didn't seem to have any respect for each other at all. Ken had a pretty good reason for truly not liking Tito - Tito was the young bull coming up in the game, and a reminder to Ken that his day in the sun was over. BTW, I'm totally disappointed with how all that turned out. Ken's coaching skills and behavior on the show were disappointing - and the fights with Tito were too. They made Ken look almost like a joke - and Ken Shamrock is no joke (I guess he just needed to know when to call it a day).

I think the no contest was a fair ruling, i mean yah it was simultanious and i don't believe for a second that Maynard wasn't unconscious because he was out cold, that's for sure.

I do believe that as fighters that Ken and Tito do respect each other but its not like they'll be exchanging birthday presents and christmas cards. I remember when tito and chuck fought each other for the first time, they tried to make out they didn't like each other, even when on previous occasions it had been stated many times that they're great friends, i didn't buy it but yeah like i said, it does make the fight more intrigueing. BJ and Pulver looked more relieved after the match more than anything because now they don't have to play up this huge dislike for each other. It's a bit of a coincidence that Pulver returns to the UFC a couple months ago and all of a sudden BJ has a huge vendetta against him.

I think Shamrock should not have come back to MMA after his stint in pro wrestling. In that time frame, the fight game had evolved so much and he didn't get any younger. His fight record since returning to MMA in 2000 is 2 - 8.

I cant wait for TUF6 with Matt Serra and Matt Hughes as coaches.
I think Hughes is a dick though, hope Serra kicks his ass in their fight in December.
Theres meant to be a fighter called Mac Danzig who will be in Season 6 and expect him to win it, after all hes a lot more experienced than the other guys and hes fought in Pride.

hey what do you gtuys thin about kombo slice? xD
