Ok, so I'm totally new to the forum thing. I am a 27 year old military wife and mom of 2. My husband is on his second tour in Iraq right now (4th overseas), and we have 6-7 months to go before he comes home. Now is the time to lose the weight period. I'm tired of the struggle, tired of being this way. My weight gain has definitely caused problems in my marriage and with my self esteem and self confidence all around. I gained 60 lbs w/ my son (who will be 2 in a month, so no excuse for still carrying extra weight). So needless to say I am bigger now than ever at 180 lbs and 5'4". I really would love to lose between 40 and 60 lbs. I have lost some here and there but put it back on. I think my plan is to take in 1200 cals a day and exercise 30 mins a day to start w/. I feel totally lost though. I do very well usually until in the evenings, and then it all goes down the tubes. I have tried lots of fads and failed, so I have been discouraged a lot. This just has to be it though, no more excuses, no more whining. I got me here, and I have to get me out. I think maybe the support from outsiders will help, at least that's what I am hoping for.

You dont want to take in 1200 calories thats too little ..
Read the sticky threads and you will figure out what you need to eat on caloric intake for losing ...

Ok, so I am kind of having a hard time figuring this forum thing out. I don't think I even know how to start a diary on here. It says I don't belong to any groups, should I? I am usually on and off of here pretty quick, so I'm sure if I play around for a while, I can figure it out. Also, how do you guys get the little tracker thingy at the bottom of your posts? I have started using my elliptical at home, but man I am soooo out of shape!

This was one of the stickies in the Newcomers thread (the posts that stay at the top of the thread at all times).

What I did when I first got on here was read through a lot of the stickies, they're really helpful and I'm learning a lot just by reading those.

Oh and I don't think it matter about the groups. I'm not in any either and I really don't even know if there are any?!

EDIT: About starting a diary -- this is the sticky at the top of the Weight Loss Diary thread -- http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weight-loss-diary/16575-welcome-journals-diaries-wlf.html

Thanks for your help! Easter was rough!!! I went home to MS to spend it with my family, and it was not a diet friendly weekend to say the least!

#1. Heartfelt thanks to your husband and his family(THIS MEANS YOU) for the sacrifices made in the name of my, and other American's freedoms.

#2. I know all about the yo-yo thing, being a "victim" myself. I joined the forums in august and had made some great progress, until the untimely death of my parents (3 months apart). I find myself ready to get back on track, and if you are lookin for a partner, I'm happy to help! Are you following any specific eating plan? Including exercise is crucial- way to get THAT on the menu!

:p

Thanks to you guys for your support and to you, Yarmiah for your patriotic words of encouragement! I do not have a partner, and would be happy to have one. I am trying to stay around 1200 to 1400 calories per day. Based on my BMR, I think that is a good daily allowance. I really would be ecstatic if I could manage to lose 2 lbs a week, that would be a dream come true for me. I am trying to tell myself early on though, not to be discouraged if I don't hit that and if I'm losing like 1 # a week, that is still progress.

Congrats on making it here and making the decision to change! Your hubby will be sooo impressed when he gets home to see that you have changed. Kepe that as your motivation! Im new to the board as well, and have really found a great deal of info and motivation to keep up with the workouts. Eating is my problem! I struggle with the food consumption most of all.

I had to laugh at your comment about your child being 2 and no longer being an excuse. I've said that a million times...only mine is now like...'my kids are 10 and 7...guess I can't use the baby fat excuse anymore!" I gained a lot with both pregnancies and have just not dedicated myself to losing the weight.

Im rooting for you!! And my hats off to you and your hubby for serving our country. My family and I thank you.:patriot:

Some weeks I only lose oz, but by the following week I have lost two pounds, if I am really good about the diet and good about the exercise ...so dont even say you will be happy with one pound ... Think positive. Think even if its a few oz ..it will be a few oz less I weigh, which will add up to a few pounds down and so on ..until you reach your goal weight and maintain...

I hope 1200 is your required caloric intake for your BMR ..because otherwise you will be starving yourself and going through starvation mode. Someone on another thread said you are pretty much anorexic if you do the 1200 caloric intake bit and I would believe it.. I used to be anorexic... dont look for a quick fix ..because it doesnt fix, it destroys. I had to go to the hospital because my wish for the quick fix and one of my organs was going to explode and I was going to die on the table that night if I did not fix myself and eat more they way I am supposed to .. I would have bled out on the table and they said they would not have been able to save me ..

so I tell you this as a person from this forum and a persona with experience .. you dont want the quick fix ..check out on the calculator in the sticky thread what caloric index you must actually have in order to lose weight and maintain eventually ..as you go down in six .. your caloric needs with go down ...thus you may reach something close to 1200 but probably not depending on your stats ..

but please dont make the same mistake I have made in the past or the same mistake many of us have...

I was anorexic and ate about 1200 calories a day ..had they not been so brutally honest about my condition .. I probably would have died ..

best wishes
and please becareful with you decisions on how you choose to lose this weight
I must suggest sending a message to Steve or Mal for further questions on the calculater and what you should be eating ... they are the ones who mainly wrote the sticky threads

Hey there, again!

I too am shooting for a caloric intake of @1300 a day. I'm just getting back on track, and doing 30min 3x a week, and strength training 2x a week. I will be building on that in the coming weeks. SELF magazine has a few FREE challenges to sign up for and you can log your food intake and workout's on that site too. I'm doing the One Month Makeover to start.

Have you started an online journal on these website yet? I'm happy to visit it and help motivate ya!
