Hi all,
Male, 46, runner of sorts (not real fast), hoping to learn more about Heart Rate (HR) in relation to overtraining, and more specifically in relation to bradycardia.
Been a runner pretty much since high school when I used to run 2-3 miles regularly and used to bike about 20 miles every summer day (in H.S.). I never really lifted many weights until I was about 35. Back then I was about 160 pounds and got to where I could BP my weight.
Now I'm about 175-180, still just less than 5'11". I could probably come close to a single BP rep of 175, but I'd need a spotter.
On to bradycardia. I will have to start a thread somewhere once I figure out the most appropriate place but here's the info:
1) it's not a 'disease' in and of itself (having a HR < 60)
2) my 'day time' resting HR is in the mid-40s.
3) bought a Nike Triax Elite HRM a couple weeks ago - it's great!
4) have worn the strap and watch overnight 3 times. 1st night, low HR was 32. 2nd night, 34. Haven't loaded 3rd set of data yet.
5) have seen a cardiologist, had EKGs, echocardiograms, and some sort of test of the sympathetic/parasympathetic system - and apparently all good.
6) DR recommended 600mg daily of Alpha Lipoic Acid. To apparently help my very occasional light dizzy spells (about once every couple weeks, 1-3 seconds long usually)
I run about 3 times a week, usually 3 - 6 miles. Except the past few weeks when our buildings' gym was closed, would lift weights 3x weekly. Nothing trying to bulk up - just to keep atrophy away.
my "holy grail" - to seek others that have resting HR in the 40s and even 30s -I know I'm on the edge of 'normalcy' - I just don't want to croak overnight some night!
so...hi!
Daniel
