New to the forum: Sixty four year old woman needs to lose 20lbs

Hello all,

I've started (restarted) my eating/exercise plan. I eat muscle food and have Slim Fast shakes, I do some cardio and weights. Right now, I have tendinitis or bursitis in the right shoulder. So I'm very limited. The pain and loss of mobility also depresses me.

I'm 5'1" and weigh 155lbs. I'm comfortable at 135lbs and that's my goal. I know the charts say I should weigh even less. Not so. I'm muscular and I find that older women do far better with a bit more weight than the charts allow. At least that's the way I see it. I don't expect to get the little waist and hips back that I had as a girl of twenty. My main concern is health and just feeling good, being able to do the stairs without running out of breath and that sort of thing. Less pain in the knees. If you are young, you won't know what I mean. If you're older, I'm sure you know.

I'm glad I found the group and look forward to interacting with all of you. I live in the mid western part of the U.S. I work from my home. I have two cats and one dog. I collect coins and fountain pens.

Guess that's about it.

Welcome! I believe you are right that we can carry a little extra weight as we age.....and it's even better if it's muscle weight. Lots of good info here. Good luck on your weight loss.

Thank you. I personally think that women look better, sexier if you will, with a bit more weight. Skinny isn't beautiful or sexy. Of course, fat isn't either. But a woman with some curves and roundness in the right places is a class act. So I don't want to look like a boy. I like flat abs as much as anyone. But sure don't expect to ever have them again and not sure I'd want to.:driving:
