New to the forum, just looking to lose a little.

Hi!

My name is Amber (thought that username was taken, so I named myself after my cat, Figgy. Both names are awesome, so you can call my either). Currently I am 21 years old, 5’6â€, 144.6 pounds and looking to weight 135 as a first, perhaps only, goal. Though watching the pounds slide off is so addictive! I lose weight by eating whatever I want but only as much as I need – for example I opt for a McDonald’s happy meal instead of a supersized Big Mac meal. I am trying to lose about 1 ½ - 2 pounds per week, though I’ve been struggling with bronchitis and lack of appetizing food lately so I lost a little fast this week. I like walking, drinking water, diet soda, black coffee and black tea. The only “real†rule I have is if there isn’t a zero calorie sugar substitute available for a beverage, just drink it black. Or if you can’t SEE someone but the right sweetening agent in. I hate drinking my calories because it’s pointless and sugar makes my breath smell bad. Although I used to have a poor body image, I actually think I look pretty good even at the weight I’m at now. I try not to get caught up in the “numbers game†– there is a song that I heard that had a good point when it said “I’ve weighed out all the options / that scale’s not fit for adviceâ€. Though it is very addictive. My scale (who I’ve named Steve) and I definitely have a love/hate relationship. Anyways, I’m looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hey Figgy, welcome to the forum!

I would suggest staying away from the fast food altogether (at least most of the time). Ordering a happy meal instead of a big mac is not a very sound weight loss strategy. You would be much better off to prepare your own healthy meals using lots of veggies, fruit, lean protein, and whole grains. Use fast food as an occasional treat or save it for when you really have no options for something better to eat (like being on the road - but even then, you can take food with you).

Good luck!
