New to the fitness scene, in need of your help!

I posted some of this in the introductions forum, but I supposed that it's better suited here.

I'm just about to turn 20 years old in July. Being that I'm only 3 years out of highschool now, I'm pretty ashamed of the shape that I've let myself get into. The college lifestyle certainly hasn't helped much. In highschool I considered myself to be fairly athletic, never in the best of shape, but I was never really fat. My father's side of the family has a history of diabetes and that is NOT something I want to experience for myself.

Now I feel like I'm at a bit of a turning point, where I'm ready to whip myself into shape. I'm not necessarily looking to become a bodybuilder or get myself the perfect abs or anything like that. I just want to get myself back to a healthy, respectable weight... and then from there we'll see what happens.

I want to try to get there with a solid weight training and cardio program. The problem here is, I have no idea really how to put together such a program for myself. That's where I'm hoping a few of you lovely people could help me out.

A picture for reference of where I am currently:

Well I think from your picture your not a bad start could you post some more of your status like your BF%,current weight, height. Then it will be easier for people to help you with your calories and food consumption. Try to do some full body weight excercises and a good amount of cardio everyday and read around stickies really really good info there

BMR Calculator - Basal Metabolic Rate - Lean Body Mass - Caoloric Needs - Fitness.com - Free Exercises, Fitness Equipment, Customized Workout, Fitness Programs, Fitness Articles, Beauty Fitness, Weight Loss, Weight Training, Diet Plans

Find BMR and Subtract 20% from it to loose add 20% to gain.

Thanks for the reply.

BF% I'm not sure of. Height- 5' 10" Weight- 190 pounds give or take

My BMR given that formula is 2002.7

Ok, well, I somewhat forgot about this place, but I remembered and I am back.

I've been doing decent in my quest for weight loss. The actual numbers of pounds aren't that staggering, but the way my body has felt lately has been tremendous. Much more explosive and energetic.

I've been living on a steady diet of compound lifts over the last month and I've begun to really love working out.

Here's my current problem though: Bench pressing. I've noticed that in my benching, I'm not really feeling the workout in my chest very much. Rather, most of the "burn" that I feel during the exercise is in my bicep area down my arms rather than in the pectorals. I'm not sure if it's bad form, or what. Or if that's even normal. Any feedback on this would be tremendous.

check the form, and if that's correct then it may just be that the weight you are at is harder for your biceps than your pecs.
