New to HIIT

I am trying to start working out to lose some weight and be healthier, and only start about 1 week ago on moderate exercise (4 times a week, 25 mins workout).

As i was doing research, i saw the thread for HIIT. Can we consider (elliptical) slower but more resistence be high intensity? or we based them all on our heart rate  (since i haven't workout for about 10 years, simple workout will raise my heart rate).

Thank you!

What is HIIT?

HIIT (High Intensity INTERVAL Training) generally refers to mixing INTERVALS of high intensity exercise with periods of low intensity exercise. Theories vary on what is the most effective way to do HIIT:
1. length of high intensity intervals (10 seconds to many minutes)
2. intensity of high intensity intervals (80%, 100%, etc)
3. length of the low intensity periods (30 seconds to many minutes)
4. intensity of the low intensity intervals (60%, jog, slow jog, walk...)
5. number of cycles per session (6-8, many more)
6. total length of a session (20 minutes to hours)
7. number of sessions per week (1-6)
8. running, swimming, rope jumping, stair running, hill running...

IMO what works best for me is hill sprints, 2 sessions per week, sprint around 70 yards up a relativelty steep hill at 100% effort, walk slowly back to the bottom and repeat 6-8 times.

Of course, everbody is different and the best exercise is the one YOU will do consistantly!:D
