New to gym, clueless and in need a good workout routine.

I am a seventeen year old female. I weigh around 106 lbs at the moment.

First off, let me admit that I am in no way physically fit. When I say "new to gym," what I really mean is "new to the world of fitness." I want to improve my health and up my confidence after recently quitting smoking and dodging a few bullets health-wise that made me much more thankful for the life that I have.

My endurance and strength are both very low. I cannot do a pull-up, and feel exhausted after doing fifteen squats and a few push-ups. I believe my twelve year old sister could probably beat me any day in a race of anything. I'd like to change that. I want to be strong for a seventeen year old, period.

That said, I'd like to maintain a lean physique. I wouldn't mind some bulking up on my legs and gluts, as I currently appear to be almost top-heavy, despite being fairly skinny all around. It eats away at my self-esteem, to be honest. Anyways, I'd like to tighten up around my abdominal region - a lot. So, I would like a fairly normal all-around workout routine, with some minimal focus on the lower body.

I'd very much appreciate if someone with experience could help me out with putting together a weekly schedule. I won't be attending college until the spring, so I've got plenty of time to devote to such a thing in order to make it habitual before I'll be required to juggle activities. I also have a gym membership now, so feel free to tell me what machines I should be looking for next time I go. My gym is close enough to home to drive out to it daily.

Also, I eat fairly healthy. I try to eat all-organic. I eat spinach and tomato omelettes each morning, plenty of fresh fruit and organic smoothies, and at least one of my meals a day includes brown rice and poultry. I only drink water, sometimes with lemon. Is there anything else that might be beneficial as far as diet goes? I have no idea how to count calories, honestly. I just eat when I'm hungry.

If you want to gain weight, like everyone eating more is probably going to be a challenge for you. It is very good to eat healthy, but you have to make sure you eat enough protein and carbs too.

For exercising, you can get exercising videos at I am sure you'll get plenty of ideas.

Have a great day :)
