New to fitness & dieting, serious about weight loss

Hi to everyone in this community, I'm just taking up a proper fitness regime for the first time in my life and changing my diet to try and lose some weight & get fit. I'm 43 year old female and want to lose a stone at least (ideally 2 stone). I'm starting my first gym session today with a view to going at least twice a week. I'm counting my calories, trying to eat healthy, avoiding snacks between meals and reducing my portions. I have never been active, being an arty not a sporty type but now I've got a full time desk job where I'm sitting down all day - not healthy. I look forward to hearing from other people how they stay motivated to keep fit and lose weight, and any tips on the best ways to keep the weight off long term.
