New To All Of This

Good afternoon,
I came here in hopes of getting any kind of guidance I can find on my quest. I'm a 38 year old male, 5'11" and about 215 lbs. All of my life up until I was about 30 years old, I could always eat or pretty much do whatever I wanted without the threat of any weight gain. I was basically a twig all the way through high school, and even a few years beyond. But, once I hit 30-31, I became the size I pretty much am today. Up until now, I've never really cared all that much, flying through life with an "it is what it is" attitude. But, now I have decided that I want to lose a lot of this weight, and I'm looking for any advice or guidance I can find. My preliminary goal here is to drop at least 50 lbs. I'm not saying I NEED to do this in a few months or anything, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to get where I want to be as quickly and healthy as possible.

Welcome to the forum! I would suggest starting a journal in the weight loss diary section. There are a lot of active users who spend time there and can offer a lot of support.

I'm pretty new as well (joined this past week). I'll tell you what really helped me--I joined a challenge here on the forums where I'm getting plenty of support, tips from teammates, and motivation. I also started the weight loss diary, like Cory suggested where not only am I sharing what's going on, but others are giving me even more helpful tips.

A couple of things I've done is throw out all the processed food, sweets, etc and went grocery shopping and really paid attention to more healthy foods. I also purchased a couple of Fitbit devices and joined their site/downloaded their app to log my water, exercise, and food. If you're looking for gadgets to make stuff like that easier, I definitely recommend the Fitbit brand (versus Jawbone for instance).

Good luck with this, there is plenty of support on this site if you participate :)
