New Starter - Need Help!!!!!

Evening all,

This is my story and why i want to lose weight.

My names Nick and I live in Essex, i have 3 kids and a loving partner. My weight started to balloon when I got promoted in my previous job and I became anchored to my office chair. At a guess i'd say i was 10.5st at the time and very well shaped. Now i'm up to a staggering 17 stones just 6 years later. Its been a shaky 6 years, my dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and they took away his driving licence and his eyesight is starting to deteriorate. At the time the doctor recommended me and my brothers have medicals to check to see if we would follow in his footsteps and the doctor delivered a crushing blow to say that I would be most likely to end up with the same condition because i'm the same size and have the same lifestyle.

Most people would say "go on a diet and lose some weight at the gym" but heres the tricky part. From Birth my body has rejected fruit and triggers gag reflexes. Some people cant eat cheese, some cant eat meet, but I cant eat anything that grew on a tree or in a field (except potatoes). So since birth i've lived a high protein and carbs diet all my life and up until 6-7 years ago i was one of the lucky people that could eat eat eat and never gain weight......but then it caught up with me.

I joined this sight in search of a diet that could fix me. I dont mind putting the excercise in (in fact i enjoy it) but its no good if i cant eat right too.

Please please help me with your wisdom and experiences.

Welcome to the fitness.com forum. I think you need to keep it simple, I’m a bit like you in the fact that I hate eating fruit, however I can actually eat it without gagging. Because you don’t eat enough fruit you are probably not getting enough vitamins throughout the day, it might be worth taking some multi vitamin tables.

I never normally recommend taking just vitamin tablets without eating food that contains those vitamins aswell, but as you are convinced you cannot eat fruit I see no other option.

In regards to weight loss, it seems you need to control the number of calories you consume in a day, if you have put on weight it simply means you are eating more calories than you are burning. To change this you need to eat less calories per day and also exercise to further increase the calorie loss.

Thankfully you say you enjoy exercise, this is good because you will need to do a lot of it if you want to get back to 10.5 stone. I would recommend at least 30 minutes of hard exercise at least 4 times per week, at the same time reduce the portion sizes of your food which will of course reduce the calories you are consuming on a daily basis.

I hope the above helps but to give me a better understanding please let me know the food you consume in a typical week, and also the activities/exercises you do in a week.
