Hi :)
What are your goals? Are you just looking to lose fat or to increase overall fitness? I'm sure there are a lot of people who can advise you better than I but my first stop would be to asses nutrition and then to get going with exercise. You could do it the other way around, or both at once, but you might find that if you concentrate on exercise before nutrition, you don't get as good a workout as you would if you were eating healthily. And if you do both at once, it might be too much of a shock to your system (physical or mental) and you could give up.

Do you know how many calories you should be consuming every day and how much you actually are? What about fast food, alcohol, soft drinks etc? When was the last time you exercised regularly? If it's been a while you'll need to start slowly.

Good luck.

Diet and exercise... set goals for yourself, that helps.
you can find many posts here that could help you get started.
Good Luck.

I am currently recovering from for knee surgery and have been dis abled for like 18 months. Hard to stay fit when all you can do is lay around and eat with no exercise. So what I am asking, is it possible to drop the body fat and gain lean muscle on my abdominal area? I currently have zero insight as to a diet to follow, and would really appreciate teh help. During my 18 months though I packed on about 20-30 lbs of fat, I normally weight in at around 215-220 now I am at 255-260. I really hate this shape and state I am in, and am looking to get back into the grove. Maybe with a little help I can make my life great.

Thanks for the post and I look forward to hearing from you all about possible helping methods.

Currently I am running 1/2 -1 mile aday for rehab purposes, and lifting 3-4 days a week. Most of my lifting has been concentrated on my legs but now I am starting to hit upper body heavy. Also I was told that I did not need to hit Abs hard until the ab fat was gone, any truth to that?

They are probabally trying to tell you that you can have huge abs under that fat but it dosen't matter. You have to focus on loosing the weight, I would say that it would be foolish to "neglect" anything, just don't expect to see those abs until your BF% is in the single digits.

Sounds to me like you are making the effort on the excersize side, but you really will have the most impact on loosing the weight by complementing that with good nutrition. Don't starve yourself, just eat healthier food in smaller portions throughout the day, along with your excersizing, it will keep your metabolism going. Thats the key.
