New & Nervous

Hello!~
I’m new here and ready for change!
I’m a 21 year old single mother with a family history of heart disease and high blood pressure. I am overweight by at least 80 pounds and I need to lose weight!
My mother passed away a little less than year ago. Her death wasn’t weight related but she did have a massive heart attack related to smoking and not taking care of herself. She was only 50 with 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
I don’t want to die at 50 because I am fat!

I have a SERIOUS food addiction! I go to bed thinking about what I’m gonna eat for breakfast and I wake up thinking about what I’m going to eat for lunch. I loooove fast food, bread, and Sprite!

I have a son that is almost 2 years old and I want to be able to run through the yard with him without having to sit down after 5 steps!

Today starts my first true day of change! I WILL be healthier and by this time next year, I want to have lost at least 70-80 pounds!

Always
Chanda

Welcome Chanda.

This is going to be a mental battle for you more than anything else. But you can certainly do this, one step at a time.

I'd start be making very subtle changes. Maybe drop the soda for starters and start eating more frequently. This should help satiate you and take your mind off food a bit.

I'd also start moving more. A few days per week go for a walk if weather permits. Or find some mode of exercise you can do indoors a few days per week like an exercise dvd.

The real secret for you though is going to be getting control of your mind. If I were in your shoes, I'd constantly be asking and reminding myself WHY it is so important to do this. Your mother died very young. Cigarettes probably played a role in this, but it's never one single factor. If she was overweight, that played a role too as well as her genetics. And her genetics are your genetics.

You love your daughter.

Do this for the both of you b/c you both deserve happiness and health!

I'd spend some time writing a list of things you want to change about yourself. Also write down WHY you want to change said things. Once these things are identified, you can start working on small steps toward positive change.

Don't bite off more than you can handle though, it's a surefire way to trip and most beginners have a hard time getting back up in the initial stages.

Best to you and if you need anything, there is a lot of information and support on this very forum. Don't be afraid to speak up!

you are so correct!
When I got pregnant I stopped my bad habits 100%. For the entire 9 months I didn't drink soda, I didn't eat fast food. It was fruits, veggies, water, and healthy foods. And it wasn't hard AT ALL. I was able to do it because I knew I had no choice.

As soon as I had my son though, I went back to my old/bad habits.

Now, I just have to put my "smart" brain on again and be healthy!

The day I delivered, I weighed 25 pounds LESS than I do now! *sigh*
I can do it!

You're welcome and you CAN do this without a doubt. You just have to find the 'fuel' to facilitate consistent effort from within.

Welcome!!! You have some really motivating reasons to lose weight. As long as you keep those in mind and work hard, I'm sure you'll start dropping the weight! Good luck :)
