Hi there :) My name is Kate im 20 and i weigh 192ibs which is good considering only 3mths ago i weighed in around 204!! I never thought that i actually weighed that much! Looking at me, my friends and family thought i weighed 170 at the most! I WISH! lol I dont look that big tho, which confuses me! My reasoning behind me wanting to shed the pounds is because diabetes and high blood pressure run through my family, i dont want to get that!! And also i want to feel and look good!

Im hoping to lose about 2ibs per week
i want to lose 30ibs by january
my goal weight is 160-165
im eating 1200cal a day and i exercise at least 4x a week
sometimes more!

Thanks
Katie;)

welcome to the form. Look around the form there is alot of great info. here.

It sound like you are headed in the right direction good luck.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your success so far.

Might I suggest working on your diet a bit. 1200 calories seems low to me for someone your size.

Oh really? Why is that? I dont feel hungry usually, i drink TONS of water. But pkease let me know! i want to lose weight the right way!

Generally speaking, you should base your caloric deficit off of a predetermined maintenance number.

Maintenance = the point where calories in = calories out, thus weight remains constant.

When you invoke a caloric deficit, meaning more energy used than consumed, regardless of how 'steep' the deficit is... your body is going to adapt. We are genetically pre-wired to resist weight loss unfortunately.

Of course dieting works. However, if you do so with too extreme an approach, the adaptations associated with dieting tend to kick in *harder* and faster.

So what are the adaptations?

A few that should concern you:

1. A slowdown in metabolism
2. Hunger pangs
3. Loss of muscle tissue

You need to take a longer term outlook/approach. Eating how you are now will certainly lead to weight loss now. But it will also cause a plateau sooner than need be. More importantly, it's almost a guaranteed way of starting the yo-yo dieting approach which ultimately leads to looking worse than you started more often than not.

ahhh

oh no i really dont want to be a yo yo dieter! Now im worried! How many calories a day should i be eating?? if i eat more than 1200cal/day wont it make my hopes of losing 2ibs per week not do-able?

Why'd you almost give up?

I knew that i had lost 12ibs and i was pretty happy im not gonna lie, but my sister who is 2yrs younger used to be kinda chubby and now shes skinny and looks awesome! and im so jelous (yes! of my younger sister!). And my friends are all so thin and im not! im always the fat girl, so i was just eating whatever not worrying about what i looked like. Until i ran into an old friend who had lost 40ibs and she looked amazing and i said to myself "WHAT THE **** AM I DOING!!!" i really need to get back on track and be healthy! I dont want to be the fat girl anymore! I want to actually be able to wear skirts and bating suits an feel confident in them! And i want to buy a pair of williamrast jeans (justin timberlakes brand :) i love him) but they only carry a size 32(a small 32) and i certainly am not that small yet!! Its very frustrating!

I want this more than ANYTHING in the world!!! I will DO WHATEVER it takes to be healthy, confident and look great!!

Your maintenance intake is probably around 2300-2500 calories per day based on your current stats and history. It's a very rough estimate, but it's all we can work off of.

That said, I'd shoot for 1800-1900 cals per day for fat loss, assuming you are exercising too.

You might want to jump up to that intake slowly though.

Kate,

I hate to say this to you b/c I have never seen you, but I'm sure you actually look your weight. Believe me, I have had many times when I thought "OMG I don't look like I weigh X weight" but after I lost weight looked at pictures and was like "OMG I totally look X weight!" - you do look it, but once you get used to it it is easy to say you don't. Once you lose the weight you'll look back and wonder how you ever let yourself get so heavy - I know that is how I feel at least and I still wonder how I ever got this heavy (and I just ate a ton of nachos so I'm not doing wonderfully), but friends/family lie - this I have learned. Just wait until you lose it!

Dude.... if you "hate saying something" because it might hurt someone's feelings, why do you feel the need to say it? Every person is different, so you can't just flat out make such a statement and take that as fact... especially if you haven't seen the girl in person. Jeez.

Speaking from experience, I held my weight very well when I was in the 225 range... had people thinking my happy ass was in the 180s. (And believe me, I was in the type of industry where people are blatantly honest with you.) So your assumption holds no water.
