New member trying to lose weight

hey guys. this is my first post here and i have a few questions about weight loss. i just completes my freshman year and college and gained a great amount of weight (nearly 20 pounds). for about a week now ive been going to the gym every day lifting and cardio for 30 mins. my questions are as follows:

1) should i be doing cardio every single day? ive heard that ideally, one should do it 3-4 times a week.

2) should i drink protein after every workout, even if i want to lose weight?

3) i believe i have a case of gynecomastia. are there any exercises that i can do to make it less noticable? i dont really mind the puffy nipple part, however, i do mind the enlargement of the breast.

4) are there any other tips you guys have for me in my quest to lose 20- 30 pounds?

thanks in advance guys.

Eat Eat Eat!!!

The biggest part of having a sucsessful fitness program is what you put in your mouth....its over 80% of what your program should be based around. You can workout every day and do hours and hours of cardio but if you don't have your eating on point you will either gain weight or not lose weight at all! I have been there before doing tons of cardio and eating what i thought was good and seeing minimal weight loss.

First start looking at your diet. What do your meals look like...how many times a day are you eating. I preach a 6 meal a day eating program.. Your eating every 2-3 hours and the meals are in smaller portions. For example...breakfast-snack-lunch-snack-dinner-snack=6 meals. This way of eating keeps your metabolism fired up and always burning off what your putting in.

If you would like more info and help with your eating, shoot me and email or check out my site below. I talk a lot about nutrition on there!

hope this helps!

If you like to perform cardio, it is better to go for HIIT for better result. Other exercises that you can workout are dumbbell chest press, wide-arm press-up, bent-over row, bent-over fly and cable crossovers.

Hi ejoilife!

Unless you are taking steroids or have some form of hormone imbalance you most likely just have fat in the pecs, a common place for men to get it.

You haven't said what your diet is like but I have found that most people who have weight issues eat a high glycemic diet. The glycemic index was created to help people with diabetes control their disease through diet (Nutrisystem= "based on the science of the glycemic index")

When your blood sugar rises too fast, insulin is shuttled in to clean it up. Insulin stores the excess as fat. Hence, the ordinarily skinny person who has a beer belly. In addition to high glycemic food or drink, you can have a blood sugar high by also skipping meals, which is why 4-6 smaller meals works.

Eating low glycemic is fairly simple: make sure that all carbs (bread, rice, pasta, etc) contain 3g of fiber per serving. Fresh fruit and veggies are okay, plenty of natural fiber. Eat regularly (4-6 smaller meals) and drink ONLY water, or 100% fruit juice. Fruit "drinks", soda, sports drinks (unless sweating heavily) and alcoholic beverages are out.
Note: food high on the glycemic index eaten or drank with low glycemic foods are somewhat lowered, especially protein food, so if you must splurge, do it with good meals.

The hands down, best way to lose weight is by using interval training. Hard exercise doubles fat burning, whether you are cleaning your house or running but very hard efforts can't be maintained long; intervals allow you to train hard within an easier workout (think jogging around a track and sprinting the corners). Intervals can be used in any type of training; walking/running...running/sprinting...cycling/sprints or climbing

In the gym, skip the cardio and do circuit training instead (it is strength training and cardio combined). Circuit training is done by doing one set for a body part and immediately moving to another like this:Barbell clean and press/ squat/leg curl/bench press/pull up/ab crunch, hyper extension/tricep press down/barbell curl/calf raise.
Once you start don't rest until your whole body has been trained. Do this training three days per week day 1) high reps 12-15 day 2) mid reps 8-10 day 3) low reps 6-8. When this circuit gets too easy, do two exercises per body part, put a cardio machine anywhere in the circuit for 5-10 minutes or do different exercises.
