New Member training to be a cop

Hi
I have a physical testing date for a police department on October 29th. I tested back in May and did not pass the sit-up portion of the test. I have to do 37 sit-ups in 1 minute. I was prepared to do 37 sit-ups but I was not aware of the time limit. Since the last test I donated a Kidney to my uncle so I was out of commison for a little while.

Here is what I need to do to pass:

Bench Press .96% of my weight: 164lbs (No Problem)
Push ups: 25 push-ups in 1 minute (No Problem)
Sit-ups: 37 sit-ups in 1 minutes (PROBLEM)
Run: 1.5 miles in almost 13 minutes (No problem)

Does anyone have any recomendation on how I should train to get to be able to do at least 40 sit-ups in 1 minute. I have 3 weeks.

Thanks

Do sit ups with weight for 15 reps x 3 sets one week ; week two do them with weight at 8-10 reps; third week do them for 12 reps with weight; then the 4th week see if you can do them with just bw for the time limit and rep scheme. Vary your weight so that at the rep scheme it is a challenge. Also do reverse crunches with weight or hanging leg raises. Don't train your abs more than twice a week though. Make it challenging. I worked up to 85lbs on my weighted ab work ( crunches and reverse crunches) and my testing for paramedics was similar. We had to do 50 crunches in less one min. I had surgery two days before the test. Good luck.

THanks for the advice Jenn,
I have been doing situps with weights on my wrists. Last night I decided to time myself without them. I was able to do 40 in 52 seconds. I only have to do 37 in 1 minute to pass. Thanks so much for the help. 5 days till the test.

Well guys I made it through the phyiscal test, the written test, and the oral board interview yesterday. They said they are going to call me today regarding additional interviews, testing, and polygraph. I am pumped.:)

wooohooooo congrats :D
thats great news, thanks for letting us know!! I hope the rest of the testing goes just as well.

wow! Interesting, I too am "joining the forum" for that same reason.

only i have to do better on push ups and running too. If any thing, my sit ups are the stronger aspect of my physical ability.

Best of luck with your progress, and what an honorable thing to do, to donate a kidney.
