Hey everyone, just joined the board and thought I'd do a quick introduction and explain why I signed up. I'm 27 years old, currently living and working in western Mongolia. I'm here for another six months and one of my personal goals is to take advantage of some free time and get into much better shape.
I've always been an athlete but it's been quite a few years since I was in really good shape and I've never really been where I want to as far as my physique goes. I'm 6'5'' and hovering right at 215 lbs, with a little excess fat I want to get rid of in my mid section.
Because of where I live, I have some challenges in getting where I want to. It's hard to diet here because a lot of the healthier foods we have available in the U.S. aren't available here. On the other hand there isn't really any fast food and there's not much as far as snacks go, so outside of what I receive in the occasional care package, I don't have a lot of easily accessible 'junk food'. I have done my best to make small changes here and there to my diet, trying to cut back on things like coke and beer, drinking a lot of water, taking vitamins, eating more fruits and veggies, etc.
I also don't have access to a gym but I have managed to get ahold of some exercise equipment here and there. I have a jump rope, a resistance band, an exercise ball and a set of dumbbells. I also have some workout dvd's like Taebo, The Pit MMA workout, and Pilates for Abs. I'm really interested in taking advantage of the dumbbells and doing some routines to increase my strength and put on muscle.
Basically I'm interested in putting on muscle(increasing my muscle mass), increasing my definition and strength and cutting fat. Pretty much the same thing most people want, I just need to figure out the best way to do it. I try to do reading and research online and talk to some of my friends who are in really good shape and it seems like there is a lot of conflicting information, a lot of different ideas from different sources and it's hard to put something together that I know will work.
I will take a look around the forums and maybe ask some questions, make some posts, see what I can come up with. I'm currently doing some dumbbell routines in the mornings and trying to do walking and running when it's not too cold out. If anyone has any tips, advice or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
