New Kid on the Block (er, Mountain)

Hello everyone.
My name is Ryan.
It's just after midnight here on Monday, November 27th.
I'm here because I'm going to start dieting immediately.
I'm currently riding a caffeine high after too much Dr.Pepper (the evil drink I am quitting as of right now).
I'm 31, living in the mountains of Colorado.
I had considered waiting until the new year to start a new lifestyle.
However, after an evening of thinking, I figured NOW is the time to do it. How great will it feel to be so ahead of the game come January 1st, the day most usually start the new lifestyle promise!?!
Anyways.
I'm here, wanting to make new friends, and I'm definitely here to support you if you need an extra ear to talk to.
It is winter time. Part of my motivation (besides the #1 Goal of Overall Health) is to look good in summer clothes come next year. Yes, I'm a Man, and Men can have those thoughts too ladies.
Glad to be here. I'm going to be giving up red meat, sodas, and all sweets.
Some people quit things in moderation. I have to go cold turkey altogether on my problem foods. I will concentrate on tuna, lean chicken, tons of water, organic as much as possible, and well, yes, the list goes on and on.
Feel free to email me and keep in touch.

CW: 226 pounds
I'm going to LOSE 36 pounds.
I'm going to get down to 190 pounds.

Hey, Ryan. I'm 32, and living in Melbourne, Australia.

Good work on the immediate start, I procrastinated for months. `I'll start next week, I'll start at the end of the month, oops, I ate chocolate, I'll start next week instead'.

You don't have to quit red meat, it's a wonderful source of iron and protein. Just bear in mind that a serving is about the size of a deck of cards, rather than half the size of your plate :)

Good idea on quitting sugar. I did the same and the first week or two were tough, but after that it was really quite a lot easier. In fact, I stopped getting these awful hangover feelings some days - tired, sick, headachey, which I think were some sort of sugar crash.

Keep in mind that cold turkey might not always work. I have one night a week where I get my favourite take away food. Fried chicken, chips, a beer or two. That's Friday nights, and it's contingent on my eating properly during the week. By the time Friday rolls around, I'm really looking forward to a takeaway meal rather than thinking of it as regular food. Interestingly enough I've reduced the portions, not because it was healthier, but because I just don't want that much junk to eat.

Our final goal weights are about the same, and your current weight is my current short term goal! I think you're going to win the race!

Anyway, welcome to the board! There's plenty to read, and lots of support to be had. Consider starting up a diary where you can log your thoughts and progress.

Hey and welcome.

I never thought of it as being ahead of the game come New Year - but that will feel pretty good I guess, when people say "I must get round to losing some weight now".

:D

Hey Ryan,
I wanna be your buddy!!!
I think your attitute is great and I believe you can do it! I have also cut off all sugars (I mean there are some we just cannot stop eating like fructose and if you drink milk, lactose) and it has been working so-so. I mostly manage to eat sugarfree, but some days some sort of sweet or another just makes its way in!
Anyways, be strong! And your dr Pepper is my ice tea (the bottled one!), hardest thing to cut and I still let myself have a bottle once a week, I am only gonna live once and getting rid of my favs completely will not make me any happier, and therefore make this harder!
Love, Mila

Hi ryan congrats on the immeadiate start! Summer will be here before we know it, So it's best to get that extra six weeks of work in. Giving up favorite foods and drinks is hard at first, but once you begin to see the results, it gets easier, mine was red wine, and yes I know that 1 glass a day is good for you, but who can just have 1? Anyway good luck on your journey.

Thank You

Hi there.

I want to thank those of you that have posted here so far for your support.

Day One is going fine as I figured it would.

I'm an "ALL OR NOTHING" kind of Man, so going "Cold Turkey" is something I'm going to do for the first two months (in regards to quitting soda, red meat, and all sweets).

I have other ideas for ways to get my protein and iron. Red Meat is something I am going to walk away from for awhile, so it will be fine.

After reaching my goal, I will treat myself to a small portion of red meat down the road.

It feels good to talk about things here. The great attitudes I see here assure me that YOU and I will both be successful!

Good luck! I just joined here not too long ago at the insistence of my sister (you'll see her around, I'm sure... Dariqueen.... LOL!), she has been doing so awesome and seeing her support here is awesome.

We should have a race.... I want to lose 40lbs. LOL!!!:D
