Hi all...Im new here...I am 23..24 in march...I had a bad foot and had surgery back in november. i have gained some weight ....quite a bit actually....but my foot is finally starting to feel good and i am ready to shed these pounds taht i have gained since high school. i need some motivation, because last time i went on a diet it didnt work out and my craving were very high. i dont have that this time and i am ready to go. need some suggestions though on what everyone is doing to help them loose wieght. Right now, I am just counting calories and watching my fat and carb intake. not giving up carbs totally because i know that doesnt work, but just less carbs. I caluclated my caloric intake and it says it should be 2550 a day, so i am going on a 1800-2000 cal a day diet. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks o my overall goal is to loose about 65 pounds. I am 6 foot and weigh 253 lbs. My wt in high school was 165 but i will be happy loosing 65..and then setting a new goal.

Welcome!

Sounds like you have a good plan. I'm also doing calorie counting, and that's the only technique that has worked for me consistantly. You should have no problems getting results. It helps to write down eveyrthing you eat in a journal. A lot of people use online tools, like fitday.com to help them calculate how much calories they ate, and help keep track of them. You can also purchase fitday program and install it on your computer.

You can also start exercising(with your doc's ok), but go very slowly so you don't re-injure your foot after surgery.

There are a lot of great people here to help with motivation and answer questions. You can also start a diary on this site in the diary section, where you can record your food/exercise and where all of us can leave our comments.

Welcome! I'm also a Sara with no H and will be 24 in March. I think your plan looks great, especially watching the carbs.

Hi and welcome!! Sounds like you have the right attitude and you have a good plan...but if I were to make a suggestion, I can't help but to think 1800-2000 is a bit high, if we are talking weight loss not maintence. Do you think you can try maybe 1500-1800?? I am doing 1200 and it works for me but I know everyone is different.

There are TONS of low cal subsitutes for everything on the market!

Anyways, good luck hun and let me know if you have any questions!

Yeah i think it is high, but i havent went over 1600 cal...so thats my goal really but 1800 is what i have read according to my body type, but i tyhought it was high also. but thanks for ur support

they used to say 30 minutes a day of exercise to maintain and 60 to lose weight but now its 60 to maintain and 90 minutes a day to lose weight! i dont like that one bit, someone just told me they read that in a fitness magazine recently. :( you also have to drink TONS of water all day, about 64 oz. it really does make a difference.

as far as the calories, you can start with 1800 and if your not seeing results you can always lower it later to 1500.

After writing my foods down for two days I realized that I havent even went over 1300 calories for both days. So i believe that is my goal. Its really not as hard as I thought it would be. In fact Im surprised that I was eating so much more before. before i would eat and not even think twice now Im kinda knowing how I got so fat. Also...question...where is the food diary on this site at? I cant seem to find it.....thanks

It's under motivation then under weight loss diary. I think you're doing great! I also think 1300 calories is a good place for you :) Welcome and if you need help just ask that's what we're here for :)
