new job is bad for my body!!

OK, I just started a new job a couple months ago. This new place has candy jars everywhere, pizza days weekly, along with other "crappy food" days. It's hard to resist; hard to walk by all these tasty treats lol. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can maybe resist these things?? I have to commute pretty far for this job too, so my gym time is reallllly limited until I move closer too, my bf% is definitely higher, although I haven't actually gained any weight..just gotten soft.

Anyway I guess this situation is just pissing me off, I don't know how to deal with it. Everyone here seems pretty content eating this crap, but they're all overweight too. Anyone else in the same boat? [/rant]

totally. I work with a bunch of gluttons and its the same thing, candy, donuts, pizza, bagels, ice cream. Its nuts. It disgusts me how much these slobs eat so that may be part of my ability to resist. Just picture yourself being a total overweight slob if you eat that garbage. Thats what I do.

Once in a blue moon we get a fruit basket and it will last for months because these lards won't eat that stuff.

You don't by any chance work in a call center do you? I once worked in one and if you walked around, someone had a sheet cake for some reason or another pretty much every day

I have the same problem too. Just make sure you bring all your own food. If you don't have access to a fridge, get a small ice chest that will fit under your desk. I try to keep healthy food in my office so I don't have to walk past their candy dishes and donuts. Plus I found out when I don't have M&Ms in my candy disn, less people come in my office just to chat, so I get more work done! :D Whenever my office orders pizza, I get out my sandwich and eat it with them. They make fun of me for it, but then they ask me how I lost so much weight. I think some people just don't understand how bad that food is for them.

Honestly, does anyone not eat at a place when you notice someone who is overweight working behind the counter? Or if a overweight person is eating/ordering large amount of food?

no i don't work in a call center, although someone around here seems to have cake more often than not. bleh!!

i need something to curb my cravings when i'm here. it's so bad i even am thinking about working elsewhere :-O but from the sounds of things junk in the office is pretty normal, so might be hard to get away from :(

same everywhere you go bud. Wait until Christmas and its 100 times worse.

Is it really that bad? I sometimes bring in stuff to keep the spirit up. During christmas or something, I always bring something in. I mean every once in a while, it's okay to eat the food there. No one wants to eat carrots and other stuff at christmas parties, so if you're going to bring something, bring good stuff people will like. You can eat your carrots at home.

The best way to avoid it is by using your senses. Would you want rejected food that other people probably ate but couldn't finish? I don't eat out of the garbage, so no, I don't eat unwanted food. Otherwise, if I get an email from someone who said they brought some special treats, I might have one if I'm hungry for it and it looks good enough.

Just keep saying to yourself that its not worth it, also how many countless times have you had something and afterwards you're like "That wasn't as good as I expected it to be." Your completely bummed out because you ate poorly and the food didn't meet your expectations. ITS NOT WORTH IT :)

oh and btw my first post

Just make sure you bring your own food. Pizza shows up at my place pretty regularly and if I've brought my lunch, it's hard to rationalize eating it. If you have no food, on the other hand, it's not.

Yeah, true. Although people stop questioning it. I've worked with the same group long enough and people throw some good natured teasing my way about not eating that stuff. But, hey, a boy has to watch his figure, right?

We have lots of junk at the office but its a great way to build your willpower as you will always be confronted with junk in different situations...

Luckily we are also supplied with fruit daily and as for the jars of crisps and other nasty stuff I just walk right past as I know how off I will feel if I have it compared to my own nutrient rich food which I bring in...

After a few weeks of resisting you wont even be thinking about it....

Good luck!:D

Not alot of food around, lots of dust LOTS of dust! Maybe you should allow yourself a max ammount of treats per week and tick it off somewhere my mum does that.

I work in a place much the same. It seems everyone in my office is a Fat A##. At least once a week we have the pizza day, peolpe just don't understand why I don't want any FREE pizza. When the Free Pizza arrives they flock to it like pizza junkies.

Sometimes, there will be catering for special meetings at lunch time and then an announcement of leftover food will go out.

There's always leftover salad (predominantly green leafy salad vegetables). If the catering was Mexican food, that's the best, since there will be bowls of tasty salsa (and maybe guacamole) that can be put on the salad.

But maybe the original poster's company is not so healthy with the food ordering. However, in the case of pizza, if you must eat some, choose the one with the vegetables on top, as opposed to the one with the typical pizza meats that are mostly fat (pepperoni, sausage).

well i made it through 1 day resisting the treats!! thanks for the replies! everytime i walk by some treats i picture one of the lardasses here in the office and tell myself that's not going to be me! seems to be working lol

I always get razzed about "watching my girlish figure"
but I'm also not in size 44 pants.

It is crazy. I am in a small office of a dozen or so people. 4 of them are in the morbidly obese category. And who do you find grazing at the snack table everytime you walk by? The fatties, of course.

They always tell me to have some because "Look at you, you can eat this stuff!" I want to reply "No, I look like this because I don't eat that stuff"

Then again, the girl that always tells me to 'have some" is on an inhaler, but still goes outside to have a cigarette every 20 minutes. What a moron. Between how much she eats and how much she smokes, why not just throw yourself in front of a bus instead of prolonging the inevitable?

I come in on weekends and throw all ithe junk food in the trash. By Tuesday though, someone has replenished it. Some people have no self esteem. I just don't get it.
