Hi, my name is Sabrina. I'm 26. And I'm a stay at home foster mom and wife. I stay home due to medical problems. Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and hemochromatosis. Since becoming at SAHM, I've gained some weight. I first started gaining a few years ago when I broke my foot and was down for 8 weeks. Since then my health has gone downhill. And I wound up with my current diagnoses. In the past year I have gained more and more weight. Until I was completely miserable with myself. In the past month, I have found determination. I joined a gym and I do what I can. I know i have limits. But I also know that I can't live with myself the way I was. It's hard to balance my urge to push harder and my limit of my illness. But I figure it out day by day! And so far, I've lost 16 lbs!! I guess I'm joining this forum for a little more support and to know I'm not alone.

First off, welcome!
Second: 16 lbs, that is great!

Sorry to hear about the health issues, but glad to see you are determined and already on your way with those 16 lbs! I don't really know much at all about the medical issues you listed but I know they are not easy to deal with. Everyone has to find their limits, especially when first starting out, to ensure they do not injure themselves by doing too much too soon. Hopefully you don't ever push yourself too hard and end up hurting yourself.

Going day by day is a great strategy, and it makes everything less overwhelming too. There are lots of great people on this board and I'm sure you will find the support and motivation you are looking for. You are definitely not alone!

Welcome to the forum!

I think you have it figured out quite well - know your limits, do what you can and take it day by day. That's pretty much the best way you can go about it.

I'm battling with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis myself, so I do know how difficult it can be. And you're right, it is difficult not to push yourself too hard, but I found out the hard way that if I do so, I'll pay for it the days afterwards, and am unable to work out at all. So rather take it easier one day, but be able to work out the next day as well.

It'll get the same results in the end, maybe just a bit slower, but also with a lot less pain! :)

Have a look around on the board, there's plenty of nice people around here, and lots of useful info. We also have a little weight loss challenge that will start tomorrow - nothing elaborate, but I always find that challenges keep me accountable and it's nice to be able to chat to people about what I have achieved, or what might not be going so well right now. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/60622-Simple-Weightloss-Challenge

And there is our monthly challenge as well. Same principle really - nothing elaborate, just there for a bit of fun and to show off progress. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/60577-Offtober-Challenge.

Thank you both so much!! I go to the gym about 4 times a week. But I never know how long I will be there on any given day. If I can only do the bike for 20 minutes... I'm fine with that. If I can do the bike and a little bit on a treadmill and maybe some work on my arms or legs..great!! Either way, its more than I used to do. I may not be able to do much, but I'm not giving up. My motto: no matter how slow you go, you're still lapping the people on the couch! :)

Love it! You should put that in your signature :)

Every little bit helps, however small. And doing something 4 times a week is really great! Even if it isn't much, or not the same every day, the fact that you are doing SOMETHING is what matters.
