New here

I'm new here and just faced up to the fact that I am not just overweight-- I am obese, and I am willing to do anything to lose the weight. I am 41, 5'1", and weight more than someone my height should. I need to lose 80-90 lbs. I am using the intermittent fasting eating plan of the Warrior Diet, and I'm exercising 3 times a day. Light cardio in the morning, resistance training at noon, then HIIT twice per week in the late afternoon before my one and only meal of the day (which is low carb and gluten-free). On non-HIIT days, I do light cardio in the afternoons also. I am determined to lose the fat. I figure I'm close to 50% bodyfat. Not good.

Welcome to the forum.

While I must admit that I eat very little starchy carb myself - but I am wondering how much fruit and veg you are having... All fruit and veg contain carbs (and fibre) and our bodies do need fibre. Protein is obviously important too. You are using the reduced eating times to restrict how much you eat - which can be healthy so long as you are getting all the nutrients that your body needs at that single meal. I must admit that IFing would not suit me as I would feel deprived at other meal times - but it certainly does help some people to lose weight.

It sounds like you have adopted a food plan that is working for you - so the big thing is that you just stay focused and keep up the good work.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends here

Good luck with your project.

Thank you for the welcome. I eat a lot of vegetables, but only a little fruit. I have found, though, that as long as I'm eating enough fat, I don't have to have fiber. I have many days where I only eat meat, and I do just fine. I only eat fruit if I have a sweet craving. I don't like eating it too often, though, because it increases hunger the next day. I do feel like I am getting everything I need nutritionally. I take fish oil and Nature's Way Alive vitamins, plus a probiotic. And the one meal a day/IFing strategy is about more than just cutting calories. It has to do with the body's response to periods of undereating followed by periods of overeating. This has been proven to increase insulin sensitivity, decrease cell proliferation, and improve many body systems/functions. People who can do alternate day fasting can even lengthen lifespan this way--and this is the only proven method to do it.

I think my digestive system is compromised because I automatically get tired and feel like going to sleep whenever I eat during the day, even a small amount. This interferes with productivity. For me, a working single parent, productivity is key. I have to be organized and on top of things and always at my best. I can't do that and eat at the same time. I hate it, but it is reality. At least if I wait until evening to eat, it's okay if I get tired. I can literally sleep for hours after a big meal, even if it's early in the day. Even if I have a small salad or a couple eggs in the middle of the day, I feel tired and spaced out afterwards.

I think losing weight is going to get rid of many of these problems, and I think exercise is important as well. Since starting this diet plan and exercise program, my mental alertness has increased dramatically, my restless leg syndrome has just about disappeared, my sleep problems have improved, and my depression has diminished. These were major issues just a couple months ago.
