Hello, I'm Candy and i'm 18 years old, I am 4'9 and weigh 150 lbs. I know its bad i let it get to that point but i kinda gave up once my mum kept telling me i was fat at 100 lbs and over 3 years that happened.
I've recently started to try and lose weight because i have stretch marks and don't want them to worsen. My mum isn't a good source of help on what to eat or whatever since she doesn't care for the healthy side and just wants me to drink slim-fast with little to no food so i came here for motivation and guidance i suppose.
All i use to eat each day was chicken and salad, i have no idea how just eating that made me gain so much.

Hi Candy, nice name! :)

I know how that feels, in just a matter of few months, we became a different person,, a bigger one per se.

Chicken and salad only? I guess the preparation and ingredients in your chicken and salad are the culprit. When you say salad, it's not always "healthy". Take into consideration the ingredients present. Especially the dressing and meat you put into it. Of course, if you always put bacon on it, lots of cheese and dressing. It's a totally different salad then.

I suggest try to minimize the dressing and other ingredients. Put more vegetables and fruits on it.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum.

We can certainly teach you everything that you need to know to turn things around and trim down to a healthy weight.

You will be able to give your Mum pointers on how to lose weight if she gains weight in the future. :) Slimfast is not a particularly good choice.

Salads can be low in calories and can be high in calories... Salad dressings can make a world of difference... Also things like having the skin on chicken...

I imagine that if you think hard you were eating other things during the day too... what were you having at breakfast time and lunch time? Anything at supper time? Any little snacks as the day or evening went on?

Then I think that we need to wonder what exactly you were having to drink. Some drinks can be very high in calories - full calorie pop, fruit juice, alcohol, sweet tea...

I think that the best thing that you can do to start with is try to write down everything that you put into your mouth... Every bite that you eat - every mouthful that you drink... Try to quantify it too.

Eating more fruit and vegetables is a good idea - as is making sure that it is cooked in a healthy way.
Drinking plenty of water helps too.

Our bodies appreciate us being quite active too - so it would be good if you could do some exercise... Even going out for a walk is good exercise so you could start with that.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.

Oftentimes, the problem isn't what we eat, but the portion size. Many people tend to put far too much dressing on their salad.

Try a mix of 3 parts pumpkinseed oil, 2 parts vinegar, 1 part greek yoghurt, salt and pepper - but only use a little of it on your salad. That dressing has a very intense flavor, so you won't need much. You can also store it in the fridge for a week, if you happen to make too much.

You don't need to go on a slim fast diet if you don't want to. It's important to make your food from scratch if possible, though, then you know exactly what's going into it and you can calculate how many calories it is. It also gives you more control over your nutritional profile (fat, protein, carbs, etc.).
