Hmmmm, how to start?

My name is Liz, I'm 29 years old, 5'9 and I weigh 282lbs currently. I'm married and we have 5 kids...ranging in age from 2 to 12. After my last pregnancy, I haven't yet been able to take off the weight, instead gaining more. I weigh 30lbs more than I did when I was 9 months pregnant.

I've been reading around, espicially the before, after and inbetween forum and have felt reassured with what I saw. I can do this, I can lose this weight. For me it isn't a choice to do it anymore, I have to. I'm miserable, I hate shopping, I hate looking in the mirror, I hate taking pictures.

I had thought about having the gastric surgery done, and while my insurance will pay for it based on my BMI etc, I really don't want to have surgery. Honestly, I don't have the time to have surgery...lol

I *think* my largest problem is "fast" food, whether it's take out, or popping a frozen pizza in the over. My husband works anywhere from 40 -60 hours per week, and having five kids, I'm always on the go. So "quick" meals have always been easy....

I'll post more, but enough for now...lol I look forward to getting to know everyone here as I make my way to my target weight....

welcome to the site...

if you do some pre-planning of your meals, you'll probably find that you don't need the fast food anymore and your entire family will benefit from it.

Be sure to start a diary to allow us to get to know you better

have fun while you're here

Hi, welcome to the site...and good luck with the journey of losing weight.

I understand about having to losing weight for your health because I need to do the same as well. And I think having supports from people who's going through the same thing will help me and thats why I am here.

I love fast food too, so it's kinda hard for me to start my program of losing weight at the beginning. But now, after several months (I started at the beginning of the year) its getting easier. I usually give myself a treat once a week, and that makes it easier for me to go through the other days. See ya around.

Thank you for the welcome :)

Your right, pre-planning is helpful and I used to do it weekly before I met my husband. Now, it's difficult at best...lol Why? There is such diversity in my families eating habits, it's hard to cook just one meal....my husband is a very straight meat, potatoes and dessert man. No kidding. He will eat almost any red meat, but no pasta's except spaghetti and lasgna (very rarely), he will not eat chicken, unless it's fried, or hot wings. But he would be completely satisfied if you put steak or bbq ribs in front of him 7 days a week.

Then you have my two daughters who are pickier than picky, the 11 year old hates all meat except chicken but loves veggies, salads etc. The 12 year old will eat any meat as long as it has no BBQ sauce or anything like that on it, she loves fruits, but the only veggie she likes is corn.

Our three sons, they are more relaxed but still have thier strong preferences. They are 11, 6 and 2.

One more note on my hubby, he is a chocoholic. We do not bye chips and that sort of thing, but I'm not kidding when I say I make cookies, brownies or cakes almost every night. Luckily, the kids are all at pretty healthy, normal weights and because of their activity, they don't seem to gain.

Because of all these variables, as the fact that I am literally always on the go (except the afternoons when only the 2 year old and I are home) I'm thinking that I want to just do this seperate from my family. My kids would adjust, but my husband wouldn't.

Initially I am planning on starting a diet which includes your meal replacements and shakes, and going to the health club 4-5 times a week in the afternoons.

I tried talking my hubby into doing it with me b/c he has gained about 40lbs too and always makes comments about it but he says no way, he doesn't want to. So I'm on my own....

hi, i understand about the diversity in food likes and dislikes, its the same in mine except i only have 2 kids and an o/h. some nights i cook 4 different meals its a real juggle, especially as i work nights and am often in a real hurry. my o/h will only eat "pig", minced beef, limited fish and veg..he will only eat pasta in the form of bolognaise - v occasionally. i will cook a dinner and he will fill up on bread and butter instead. he is also a chocoholic and will think nothing of eating 10+ bars of cadburys in a day. my daughter isnt too bad and will eat a varied selection of food. often i cook a healthy dinner for me and split it with her. my son is also fussy, although improving with age. wont eat veggies to save his life.
im not very good being organised, but i find the microwave and my new george foreman grill a real help with time. also sometimes i cook a bit extra and either put it in the fridge/ freezer for a later date. slim

Sassy take away the husband and you and I are two of a kind!:) I have five kids and "fast" food is always easier and my oldest are picky too. When I finally decided to take control of my weight I told the kids that the change in our eating was for the whole family not just mom!Oh there were complaints all around for the first month or so but now they don't miss all the baking I used to do or even the big dinners. We have learned to eat real light at dinner and I have taken my "meat and potato" kids and turned them into "chicken and fish" kids. If my kids don't like what I fix for dinner they have to go without until the next meal or learn to like it! Try to plan your meals ahead of shopping trips and avoid any aisle that has anything bad for you on it. Do your shopping right after you eat you will be less apt to buy junk then too. And last of all try to convince your husband to change his eating habits as well:rolleyes:

Start a diary in the diary section it will help you alot! Good luck on your weight loss and welcome to the WLF!!!
