New here... Cadet looking for workout tips

Hey guys. I'm new here and found this place in search of a forum for workout tips. I'm a cadet in Army ROTC and this year is the big year that counts for me... my evaluation is next summer and I really need to improve my pushup form before then. I posted in one of the other categories on this forum about that.

Basically, I'm a female who struggles with pushups in general so I tend to do wide arm pushups, but I tend to hollow / dip my back. I suspect my problem is because of a weak lower back / core. I go to the gym often but I don't think the workouts I'm doing are really benefiting my core strength. I am going to start adding in more ab workouts, but what else can I do?
