new healthier diet = sleep problems?

for as long as i can remember, i've been the kind of person that can close their eyes and fall asleep within 5 minutes, no matter what time of day, how tired i feel, etc...
since the day i started this new healthier diet, i lay in bed for what seems like hours without falling asleep. and that never happens. i can count on one hand the number of times i couldnt fall asleep before this. and im not dying from hunger, i dont even think about it.
is this normal? or at least, not unheard of?

is there anything else that's changed in your routine?

have you added in any supplements or exercising closer to bedtime?

What does your diet consist of?

I used to be able to sleep like a log too, anywhere anytime and that changed for me mid 20's. I can't attribute it to diet change really and I'm not sure what caused it initially. If you google diet and sleep patterns though I saw a bunch of articles talking about food and affects on sleep...maybe if you keep a food log you can find a culpret if this is not just coincidence.

I work shift work now so I have trouble sleeping on and offregardless and if I get beyond tired then I get the joy of insomnia. I do all the obvious stuff...hot showers, stretching before bed, etc. If that doesn't work I find sometimes I find taking a benadryl and then shoving my hubby on the floor often helps :D

Just a thought I had... Could it be that your new eating habits are healthier to the point of increasing your energy levels substantially. Maybe you're now just not spending enough of that newfound energy... are you getting in exercise as well?

The other obvious thing would be caffeine... coffee, tea and chocolate all contain these and shouldn't be taken after 3pm if you have trouble sleeping.

Sugars make you sleep longer so if you cut all that and eat healthier, you have more energy which causes you to stay up alittle longer than usual.
