Hey everyone I stumbled across this forum by searching weight loss in google and figured I should sign up since im a big boy and need to lose some pounds. Im 24 years old and I weigh 205 pounds right now. My goal weight is to get down to 170 so a 35 pound loss is what il be going for. It may seem average for a guy but for a person my height it's not im only 5'6. Anyways ive had this problem my whole life and its not like im lazy. I was born a ridiculously fat baby actually my baby picture was hands down the fattest baby ive ever seen! So yeah it's not my fault but I am trying my best. Currently hitting the gym 3 days a week and I do deliveries on thursday and fridays so I get quite a lot of exercise right now. Not much progress has been made at this point but I just got into it about a week ago.

"It's not my fault"

Sorry man. But I think the first step is probably taking responsibility for your own actions. You don't get overweight by accident. And if you are 5"6 and 205, you aren't just a bit overweight, you're probably obese. (I know this because I'm only a bit taller than you and I have been losing weight).

Also, from my point of view, what you put in your mouth makes so much more difference to your weight than hitting the gym. You can go to the gym everyday, but if you still eat shit, it won't do anything.

Hope that helps mate.

Good luck.

Also, you probably need to get lower than 170lbs. Again, because I'm taller than you I know that I was still "overweight" at 160lbs.

It's good to have "mini" goals if thats what 170lbs is, but having a final goal is a nice idea too.

Sorry, if this seems like a personal attack, just wanna help you out.

Genetics play a vital role in a persons weight, so I am totally with you on the fact that it's not your fault, but you can make things better and it seems you have already started. Remember, limiting calorie intake and working out is key to weight loss. Avoid mindless craving and eat only when you feel hungry. Good luck to you and may you find success in your weight loss goal :)

Yeah I didn't mention anything about what ive been eating. I used to eat a lot of bad foods but I was just saying this runs in the family my brother is a big boy too and my dad. I used to eat a lot of burgers and dogs which is probably the worst thing for you. All I ever eat now is vegetables and dont even allow myself a coke anymore. Chicken and fish maybe once or twice out of the month and everything else is veggie foods. 170 is definatly my main goal not a mini goal because I am also strong. Under 170 for me would mean losing a lot of muscle which im not about to do. The gym I use strictly for cardio and weights is something ive been doing at home for years.

Welcome, Taylor. Be sure you don't fall into the 'all or nothing' food mentality. If you feel the need to eat a burger, hot dog or drink a coke, just do it...sensibly and moderately of course. Eventually your body will get accustomed to the smaller portions. I've learned the hard way that you simply cannot restrict yourself from your favorites while trying to lose weight.

Another thing about weight loss is, your goal must be to lose fat weight not lean body weight. Monitor your body fat % along with others. Good luck.

I'm sorry that you were "born" an overweight person. I know it happens...but your 24 now, you've gotta own up to that responsibilty. So whats your plan to lose weight?

Thanks for the support guys. Maybe it sounded like I am not owning up to it but I am I admit I used to eat bad but the important thing is im eating controlled portions now and they are healthy foods. My plan is to stick to 3 meals a day, drink lots of water and only allow myself one small cup of coffee in the morning. Im pushing the cardio a lot at the gym and have already lost 6 pounds since my post I am now 199 which is pretty good for a weeks work. I already cut out the beer which is probably another reason for me being big. I was a heavy drinker for a really long time. The only thing im a little dissapointed in is I recently got back into smoking cigarettes that will be my next habbit to cut out. I quit for a year but took it back up a few weeks ago.

Hi Taylor, sounds like you are on the right track! You are going to the gym, that is a good step.

Good Luck
Anna
