New guy on a mission

New guy here, and I'm on a mission. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. No one can change that but me. I've got a plan, a tracking tool I made myself, and I'm focused. I'm 5'9" 306#. 9 years ago I was 180 #s and running 23 miles per week (That was as low as I could go...I had a 32" waist and was lifting weights daily at 180). My goal is to slowly but surely get to around 200# and be able to run again. Perhaps not to the same level I was back then, but at least be able to run a couple miles. I did it before, and I can do it again. This time, I will stay reasonably close to my goal. Step 1 was quit smoking...did that a few months ago. Step 2 was get my knee and feet better...did that. Step three was start walking on the treadmill. Started. Step four is a balanced diet plan, daily meal plans, and tracking what I eat and how much I walk. I developed a spreadsheet for that. I started this journey today. As much as I enjoy blogging about my hobbies, I thought a forum about these efforts would assist in keeping me focused. I hope I can add to the discussions and learn some things along the way.:waving:

There's a lot of people around here in a similar situation. Male, around 300 lbs., ready to lose weight. I never the 300 lb mark, but I got close. My knees and hips started hurting, in addition to the way my feet would feel at the end of a work shift. I'm terrified of getting diabetes or possibly knee or hip surgery. Of course, there is heart disease, sleep disorders, and a bunch of other health issues associate with obesity.
So far, I've found the club challenges very, very helpful. If you're competitive, they're really great. If you're not, they're great too, because they are low pressure personal challenges. We've all had weight issue, and you'll be supported by us , losing weight, or even if you temporarily gain weight, we'll help you get back on track!

10 years ago I was at 280 and lost 100 #s in 9 months. I kept it off a couple years and it just crept back on over time. I can't believe that I escaped the prison of my own body just to turn around and get right back in the same boat. I know how to do it...now I just have to do it and stick to it long term.

Congratulations on quitting smoking. I'm waiting until I'm finished losing before I stop smoking. If you can stop smoking, you can definitely shed the pounds. Welcome and good luck!

hey, I'm new here too, good luck! I love running... I'm going to aim for 20 miles a week like you were before. you can do it again! keep it up :)
