new guy here ..

Hi, I'm new to the world of weight loss forums. Currently I'm too heavy for my liking, and I want to fix it.

Right now I weigh somewhere between 200 and 210, I'm 6'1" and male, and my scale tells me I have about 36 % muscle and 26 % body fat, so apparently I have about 50 pounds of fat .. and I want to get down to 5-10 % BF, so I want to lose around 40 pounds of fat.

Just like anyone else, I want to lose as much weight as I can without losing muscle. I know it's going to be a rocky road .. I was hoping someone here was just like me once (same height and weight etc) and has achieved his/her goals, so that I can see how you did it.

I am a bit confused on how to do this. I know a lot of people swear by low-carb diets but also a lot of people say that's a bad for you. Really I want to go on a bodybuilding spree after I lose some weight and hopefully seriously get into martial arts, so I do want to be athletic someday.

Sorry for the long post - I hope I can get some great help here!

Thanks in advance!

PS - how long do you think it will take me to lose 30-40 pounds?

FIRST off you should find your BMR ( basal metabolic rate), if you haven,t allready, then once you get your nutrition where it should be, start a program of lifting weights and cardio. AS far as how long it will take to lose the weight everybody is different, but you really don,t want to lose more then 1 or 2 pounds a week, more then that you may tap into muscle.
