Came to the site to find encouragement and resources to lose weight. Currently weigh 300lbs and would like to lose 50lbs by year's end. My biggest obstacle is that I eat when stressed and don't handle stress well. Well I guess that's it and see you around on the forums :)

Mate I had the same problem. Get a punching bag and take stress/agression out on that. Trust me if you can get into doing that itll fall off you ;)

Dieting is important, but to put it simply, dont get crap. No chrisps, chocolate, pizza ect, fizzy drinks and alcohol are a no too. Water is great for you, drink plenty.

PS: if you work at it you can lose alot more than 50lb in a year.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure you will find lots of information and inspiration here.

What eating and exercise plan are you implementing?

Exercise strategy is to walk 30 minutes a day 3-4 days a week. I would normally try to do sit-ups, jumping jacks and push-ups as exercise, however, the pain is intense. I would also consider strength training but lack equipment or access to a gym. Truth be told, I need to get in shape just to get in shape :) In short, I'm looking for low impact exercises that I can adjust with time.

Diet strategy is more complex. I drink soda by the gallons each day. I rarely if ever drink water without eating something with it. I don't drink alcohol at all so its a non issue. I gain most of my weight during the holidays when I get gifts of bad food, high amounts of stress and little sleep.

Hi Dellarocco...

You are off to a great start with your walking. I, too, have to get in shape just to get in shape.:svengo: It took me a while to give up my Diet Pepsi....I was quite the addict. But I started not keeping soda in the house which forced me to drink more water. Now I don't buy soda for home because I prefer to drink water and typically only drink soda if I go out....I'm not much for alchohol either. It certainly doesn't help during the holidays when you get gifts of food. The temptation can be so great. Now that the holidays are over perhaps this won't be so much of an issue anymore.

I think you're off to a good start. Just having a desire to lose weight and work on being more healthy is a great sign. Four years ago I lost 82 pounds on Weight Watchers and just by walking. I started out walking just about twenty minutes a day but then eventually increasing it to 1-2 hours a day. I would walk on my breaks at work and walk in the evenings when I get home. Then I got lazy and thought that after losing the 82 pounds that I could continue a healthy lifestyle on my own. I was wrong. I need the support and encouragement from others who are familiar with what I'm going through.

Whatever road you decide to take just remember that there are people here who will cheer you on and support you along the way and, whatever you do, never ever give up!

Take care,
Shelby

Thank you Shelby for your encouragement :) I have the same addiction to diet soda. I was always under the impression that it was good for you since it doesn't have calories.
