Hi everybody, thought I would briefly introduce myself.

I'm a 33 year old male. I was a raging alcoholic from age 21 until about 2 years ago, when I went into a rehab and dried myself up for good. Shortly after my rehab stint, I went for a doctor's checkup (my first time to visit a doctor in years), and found out that I have type 2 diabetes. I sort of see it as a punishment for all my years of drinking all that high-carbohydrate beer. Anyway, the first year or so out of rehab my main focus was on not drinking anymore, and during that time food served as a substitute. I ballooned up to 280 lbs (as a point of reference, I'm 6' 3" tall) . My blood sugar was going haywire.

About 3 months ago, I finally started doing something about it. I began exercising -- the only regimen I've been able to stick with is climbing up and down the stairs in my office building 30 min. a day. Also trying to eat better, although that's difficult for me, as I don't really like fruits or vegetables. :(

I have managed to get my weight down to 240, and my blood sugar has stabilized. I'd like to lose another 30 pounds or so. But, I've hit a wall, and I think it's my problems with food. I just don't know what to eat! As I said before, I don't like fruits and vegetables. For a while I would grill chicken on the barbecue, but then I learned about the cancer risks associated with that. Now I'm not sure what to do. Neither my wife nor I like to cook, so I'm looking for simple things. I'm joining this forum to try and get some ideas as to eating habits that have worked for others.

Anyway, probably more info than y'all needed to know, but I just thought I'd share my story.
