What's going on everyone. My names Andy, I'm from buffalo ny. Decided to join the forum because I need all the help I can get with losing weight, and toning up. Currently I'm 245lbs, 5'10". Recently I have started eating healthier, drinking mainly water, and going to the gym every night I can. But still, I don't see any weight loss. So hopefully with the help from the members on here I can develop some kind of idea of what I need to start doing different to see some results.

Hey Andy, welcome, there's a lot of info in these forums, hope you find all your looking for and yes, let's lose that fat. I've got so much to learn but can say fat loss is pretty simple, to lose it you have to burn more calories than you take in. So, that's the first place to start. There are lot of online calculators to get you in the ballpark of how many calories you need, and the caloric content of foods. Later on, you can pretty much come up with what works well for you. Also, plan for the long haul, fatloss takes a bit of time because things don't always go as planned, there will be ups and downs along the way.

Generally, to lose fat you have to combine regular workouts with a caloric deficit.

I'd suggest measuring yourself, you may be losing inches in one area and putting them on in another if you're exercising and building muscles. The scale can't tell you how much fat you have versus how much muscle you have or anything like that. Sometimes it's a slow process. Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for. Have you started a weight loss foodie journal yet? That might help, because then people can see how much you're eating and what you're eating and maybe offer some tips. Good luck and welcome to the forum :)

Welcome to the forum.

I second the idea of using an online calculator to track your food... I use www.fitday.com which allows you to track not only calories but also the nutritional profile of your food - to ensure that you are getting enough protein etc...

Be careful with portion control and in the way that you assess the quantities of food that you are analysing when counting calories etc.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.

Hey Andy,
I'm from Buffalo too (Amherst that is). A month ago my friends got me to take a weight loss challenge that I was super skeptical about but willing to do because I was stuck too. I was a cleanse followed by vitamins and supplements and had an entire step by step eating and regimen booklet and online virtual coach and everything. Basically it worked. I dropped a bunch of weight. I have energy now and I can't even think about eating crappy again. Total heaven sent for me. But you need to follow the plan. Best thing is after like three weeks you just take vitamins and eat right. I use a couple other supplements because I love the added energy but thats just a personal preference. Anyway since it's forbidden to post links here I'll give you a hint. <spam is forbidden and removed> Best of luck brother! Keep us posted.

Hey Travis - that kind of program is normally pretty expensive... Tons of pills and powders that achieve nothing that cannot be achieved through eating healthily at the right calorie level and becoming a bit more active... Lots of people regain the lost weight with those programs because the don't really teach people new healthier habits though - I do hope that doesn't happen to you... Best of luck in keeping it off. :)

Hello Omega,
I do appreciate what you are saying. And believe me I had the exact same mindset. I went years of eating right and watching calories etc. Just like most people. It's almost impossible to get yourself in that perfect rhythm eating and working out the right way with no real guide. And sorry to the fans of the biggest loser but that is not real life. I dumped tons of money into personal trainers and health coaches and stuff. The reason I did suggest this is because although it cost me $190 to start, it came with an eating plan, virtual coach and tons of info on lifestyle changing. And after committing to the 24 days on cleansing followed by vitamins and cutting out things like dairy for the first 10 days etc., I'm sort of brainwashed or programmed to eat right. So now I only take the vitamins I like and I love thier spark energy drink to keep me sharp but other than that I eat awesome now and couldn't dream of eating crappy food again, when I do my body instantly regrets it. What it took for me was to have that initial loss of nasty body weight with the cleanse and the fresh receptive body for the vitamins plus the step by step plan to get me past the hump and onto my new lifestyle. :) To tell the truth I would have spent a hundred times more to look and feel the way I do now. So I 100% support this system since I don't have to spend years and tons of money at ww anymore just to maintain and barely feel good. I feel awesome and thank you for your support and best wishes. Keep up the amazing work. And advise to everyone, don't get down on yourself you all can get to where you want! :) Travis

People do not need to do a cleanse to lose weight. I didnt do a cleanse when I halved my weight... Some companies will imply that it is necessary when it just plain isnt.

I am trying to work out why you would cut out dairy for 10 days. Dairy is great... That is one of the main ways that people get calcium into their diet...

Calcium from dietary sources doesnt just help you build strong bones - but it also helps people to lose weight.

Omega, the poor guy asked for opinions and options. Not one sided eat right like I do jargon. If you read his post he has been eating right and asked for options. Andy, <edited as posting broke forum rules> Not to disrespect but a forum is a forum. If only one persons opinion counts why not just have one sentence that says watch what you eat and good luck? Andy, it works.

Thread Creator or, as you call him; "the poor guy", made this thread on May 14th, and he hasn't been active since then. He may have checked this thread as a guest, but, at this point, I doubt he even remotely cares about what's being posted here.

Any forum member is on his/her right to post here, as long as it isn't spam and is related to the topic that is being discussed here.

"Eating right" IS an option. Surgery is an option. Your "Cleanse/Challengue/Plan" is an option, but here we consider it spam. If you are trying to sell us yet another of those "Magical/Ultimate plan" at "only" $190, then be prepared to take a big hit on your credibility.

I never understood these "cleanses" people do. What is the objective of this "cleanse"?, What it does, exactly?. Also, why would you take vitamins or supplements for something you don't even know you have a deficiency with?

If you have a deficiency or a medical condition that requires you to take X supplement, I guess that is reasonable. But if you start taking all the supplements X person tells you to, because "you might need it", when he is making a profit with it, you at least need to question his true intentions.

As you said: "And sorry to the fans of the supplements, but that is not real life"

I'm gonna post this quote: "The reason why I'm outspoken about it, is because the average person has polluted their mind to the point where they are unable to take credit for their accomplishments and responsibility for their actions, they have got this mentality that they are worthless without them"

The original quote was from Matt Dillahunty, about religion, I had to adjust it a bit, but you can clearly see the point; I suggest you take a good look at your posts, write down the phrases like: "Total heaven sent for me", "I would have spent a hundred times more to look and feel the way I do now" or "I'm sort of brainwashed or programmed to eat right", and then read the quote again.

As Athala mentioned - the OP has not logged on since 14th May and is unlikely to see any of this (you clearly picked on his old posting in your eagerness to break forum rules and spam products)...

You are clearly the person that has not read the original posting properly.

Recently I have started eating healthier

To say that you have started eating healthier is not the same as saying that you eat healthily. It is saying that you have improved things a bit... It is not saying that you have looked at portion size. It is not saying that you have looked at the calorie level. It is not saying that you are having enough protein, fibre or a whole heap of things that our bodies need... It is maybe saying that you have two massive meals of junk a day instead of three...

To say that you are
drinking mainly water
is not saying that you are having enough water - at his weight he should be having 123 ounces... It is not saying that you are not drinking a heap of calories too. I could drink 3 litres of water (about 100 ounces) and still have a lot of calories in 1 litre of other stuff - I would still be drinking mainly water...

Lots of people replace a mid morning chocolate bar with an apple and announce that they are eating healthier... They are!!! They could still be having pizza morning, noon and night with a chocolate feast in the middle of the night...

You really must learn to read what is said and not make all sorts of assumptions... If you go around doing that you will end up assuming that you need to go around doing things like cleanses just because someone has decided to try to sell you such a course... But of course - you did that!!!
