New Comer: looking for some ultimate Jillian power

Hello everyone,

I am Diana, I am 25 years old and I live in vermont. :waving:

The last two years have been starting to weigh heavily on all of my body.
I am doing everything I can to shake off these extra 100lbs, also destressing my life and changing bad habits that I have picked up since having my daughter.

I am working on a blog of my own, to express everything that is going on. I know I need some help. What I am doing isn't working.

I have heard great things about support systems on line. Millions of people are out there.
I need to find a Jillian power. Jillian Michaels makes things look so easy. Any great suggestions, or ideas for eating; maybe even just knowing I am not alone.

I currently weigh 231lbs. I have lost 9lbs in the last six weeks, and I have about 100lbs to go. I am a young mother of a 2 year old; I want to live to see her turn 25 myself. If I keep getting bigger, and never get back to where I was before I had her, I will probably be dead long before than.

Hi. First off I wanted to wish you good luck.
I'm a huge fan of Jillian and Im working out to her 30 day shread dvd. ( hopefully I'm not spamming) She says you'll lose 20 lbs in 30 days if you use her diet and her dvd. Blah..IMO, thats a lot of weight to lose so quickly. I eat wisely and make good choices...common sense. But her work out is awesome. If you have 25 minutes, you have the time to do it. Its hard and gives you a good burn. Its great for those days you don't have a lot of time or the weather is crappy :)

Welcome to the community.

I think the biggest hurdle for most, besides education, is being flexible. Far too many miss the concept of tracking progress and adjusting what they're doing based on said progress.

They're too static - expecting whatever they're doing to "work" just because they feel they're working hard and doing things right. Unfortunately, that's not the way this works. This is a process/lifestyle where you have to "touch & feel" your way toward your goal.

I'm not suggesting you're doing anything different... I'm simply sending you a warning and food for thought.

Managing expectations is huge, too, which only gets harder with each passing year as more flashy products and shows like The Biggest Loser come out.

Jillian makes it look easy b/c she's on television. Reality is a bit different. I'm not much a fan of Jillian for the simple fact that people assume she's a "good trainer" simply b/c she's a celebutard. Her book isn't great in terms of factual information, either. Plus, she has slapped her face on fat burner pills too which is totally selling out in my opinion.

Be that as it may, she does motivate people to get up and get moving and for that, she's good.

As the poster above noted, a lot of people seem to enjoy her 30 day shred. Though she uses hype to sell it with outrageous claims... from what I've seen it's decent. It's not magic. No "program" is. But it might be something you enjoy.

Anyhow, I'd suggest starting yourself a journal here on the forum. Venture into other's journals so you can meet some of the regulars. Journals are a good way of logging your trials and tribulations, gaining support, generating accountability, etc.

I'd also suggest reading through some of the stickies at the tops of the various sub-forums.

If you have questions, simply ask. The most specific the question, the better the answer you'll get.

Best to you.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! just because you are on television does not make you a good trainer!!! I agree, a lot of her facts are mixed up,and bob is horrible, they are great motivators and that's about it.

I would definately keep a food journal and right down anything that passes your lips. Write down what it is,what time you ate it,and what it has on it. I have found that people that dont write down what they eat are usually eating 70%more than what they think they are...try that to start you might be surprised at what you come up with

Great Advice

Wow, that was a lot of great feedback and only in a few hours. Thank you for the encouragment.

I have been making a lot of changes in my life and diet etc. I have been trying this food journal for about 3 weeks, and I agree that I was probably eating more before; no probably surely I was.
The hardest part about changing the eatingthough, is knowing what the good stuff really is. What is the good stuff? I eat vegetables, I eat lite dairy, I eat good non fatty proteins; what am I not getting?

I am also trying to come to terms with portion control. How much is a portion? Some say the palm of your hand is about 6-7 oz of protein, doesn't that depend though on how big your hands are? How many vegetables? I have checked over the pyramid and I think I am missing something. Although it is spread out in a day if I ate all that was suggested I can't see myself losing any weight at all. Any good tips on how to portion everything?

Ahh why Jillian. I think jillian is a rude sell out myself; why it is that her voice motivates me must be some kind of hypnosis. I think it might be that even if it is a lie that is pouring out of her mouth, she sounds authoratative and self assured. If it works though, don't worry is what I think. I have also just purchased the 30 day shred, and her general work out video.

So I take it now that I have introduced myself I should move all of these types of threads to a more specific area? A journal area?

Thanks again,

Yes! we have a diary section that you can create your own diary/journal! We use that to keep track of our goals and get support from the wlf family!
