New but definitely motivated...

Hi everyone,

my name's Sheryl. The other day I was just messing around online doing a google search on "weight loss before and after" for added motivation and to my amazement this site popped up. Thank goodness for google. haha

A little about myself, I am originally from Honolulu, HI but have since moved to Binghamton (Southern Tier), NY. I have always struggled with my weight since I was younger. I was always considered "the chunky daughter." Better yet, I've always heard while growing up, "Oh that's one's so cute, but she's momona." (The Hawaiian word for "fat.") Never miss, my mom and dad would interject to protect me from the "chubby bashing." haha They're great.

The heaviest I have ever been was 225 lbs and I believe I was 23-24 at the time. When I was 24, I decided to start drinking Slim Fast. Religiously, I'd carry around my shake wrapped in foil for breakfast and lunch while attending school. After, I would walk home from the University of Hawaii which was about 5 miles. I ended losing about 35 lbs in a couple months. Unfortunately, I didn't even realize I was starving myself. At times I remember logging in 950 cals in a day. Needless to say, I gained 35+ lbs a couple months after. We won't even go into details about my ordeal with diet pills. Egads.

At 25, I met a wonderful guy whom I later married. For the past 3 years or so, I was yo-yo dieting and it really took a toll on my health. In February '07, I flew back to Hawaii for my grandfather's funeral. Due to not being able to cope with the loss, I went back to eating everything and anything in sight. By the time I left Hawaii (End of March), I weighed in at 210 lbs. (Only 15lbs away from my heaviest.) When I returned to NY to be with my husband, I decided that I couldn't go on with the yo yo dieting any longer. I busted out my BeachBody's Slim In 6 and started on March 27th. Now, I weigh in at 185 lbs and am finishing up my 2nd Round of Slim in 6 (week #5).
My ultimate goal is to get to 140 lbs. However, I would like to hit the 170s mark by Christmas when I go back to Hawaii to see my family. (179 lbs would make me happy.. haha I'm not picky.)

I have read many of your posts and have viewed awesome before and after photos. I'd really like to thank you all for being a huge inspiration to me. If anyone's interested in being workout buddies or just wanting to drop by to say "hi," I'd really appreciate it. Well here's to everyone... good luck on your goals, ladies and gentlemen! :hug2:

Hiya,
I know youve been on this community for a few months so I'd apprecaite any advice, tips etc. I looked at your stats and realised they were pretty close to mine, I'm 26 and 5'0, 140 pounds which on my shortie frame is a lot. (I'm about a US size 10-12 but short! Do you feel the pain of a short chubby person?! I'm convinced the lack of height makes it worse..) What is your current exercise/eating plan and what do you do?.. how much have you lost so far and how did you do it?!? I'd apprecaite any feedback you can dish out!

Hi, I read your posts about Hawaii with a great deal of interest. My wife and I lived in Honolulu for 3 years, probably before you were born, in 1974. My wife is Filipino, and had some family there. We were pretty poor, so we lived in Kalihi, in a termite infested apartment. I worked as a machinist out by the industrial park where they have all the cock fights. We participated in some of the protests over an island that was used for bombing by the US Military. There was a very influential guy back then -- I forget his name -- but he was on of the leaders of the protests, and he supposedly drowned paddling his surfboard out to that island.

I remember the concerts by Melveen Leed and Raymond Kane, two of my favorites. I don't know if they are around anymore. My brother in law worked for Ben Cayetano for quite a while.

I miss it a lot, but we did get rock fever after a while. When my wife's father got cancer, we had to move back to the mainland.

I would sure love one day to see Niihau -- but I don't know if that's even possible.

Wow, Tom.... everything you said just gave me fond memories of Hawaii. :) What a small world... actually, my grandfather who passed away, was pure Fillipino and my grammy's Filipino/ Spanish. I also lived in Kalihi (Valley) and I miss it for those great tradewinds and beautiful rainbows. Campbell Industrial Park- wow... my father was a construction foreman back when. Now they have a huge racetrack out there where we would go to watch Chevelles (luv luv luv Chevelles) and the likes tear it up. (Always bring ear plugs.. haha)

The island with the bombings= Kaho'olawe. I was a part of the clean up crew while attending the Uni of Hawaii at Manoa. As for Melvin Lee and R. Kane... God... good stuff and I know Lee is still around and doing shows. Ben Cayetano... ummm... no offense, but he was a wicked asshole.

I really am sorry to hear about your wife's father. Really... thank you for taking the time to write a post. I really enjoyed it. Bah... now I feel like I should call my dad and cry. hahaaa! Thanks a lot, Tom! hehe jk

Niihau.... ummm yah.... stick to the other islands. HA! I love Kaua'i. Beautiful and green... awww.....

Hey, Sheryl. Yeah, beware of Steve. He's a bully. :D

The whole time we lived there, we never had enough money to go to the other islands. I would love to see Kaua'i.

I just remembered the name of that guy who died paddling to Kahoolawe - George Helm. He was one of the ones who first landed there in 1976.

My father in law died in 1977 - 6 months after we got married. We had one of those "big fat Greek wedding" ceremonies. On my side, there was my mom and dad. On my wife's side there was only room for the 300 closest family members and their friends.

When we lived in Kalihi, there was one amazing day when all the frogs came out at once. There were tens of thousands of them -- so thick you couldn't even drive a car without squishing them. Does that still happen?

We loved the parties there. At every party, there was always someone with a guitar or a uke and lots of singing and story telling. Great times, but so long ago!

Steve's alright, I suppose. I think he just needs a hug (chokehold) or two. HA!

Awww yes, George Helm... I was trying to figure that one out. haha As for Filipino families.... isn't it amazing at how many cousins, aunties, uncles there are? HA! According to my grammy, I have a lot of Filipiino family in Maui. (First plantation workers from the Philippines..) I have YET to meet the all. As for the frogs... OMG... the coqui frogs (Eleutherodactylus coqui- I'm a nerd and did research on them while UHM) are horrible. It's gotten to the point many residents are losing sleep due to their annoying two-toned love call. Amazing, yet an absolute nuisance for residents. They reproduce like wildfire. When I get back in December, I'll try taking a few pix of the frogs. I'm talking thousands everywhere.

Luaus... oh how I miss them. :D Remember those nights where the families would have kalua pig, lomi salmon, squid/ chicken luau, poi? Awww... delightful. And yes... live entertainment was always a plus.... I used to be asked to dance awana hula at family events.... damn... I miss that.

OMG.. I can't believe you're speaking to me like this. I have come to the conclusion that WLF members show no support whatsoever! I mean, I wrote this intro like 2 months ago and no one took me by the hand and wrote me up a nutrition/ workout plan. :D Damnitt, I deserve one!

68 calories a day of whatever you want will get you the results you're looking for.

Exercise isn't needed.

Duh.
