New and need all the help I can get..

Hey there everyone,

Im new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself.. My name is Jerry, Im 23 years old and live in Conway, Arkansas. I stand 6'5" and weigh about 200 lbs. Im tall and skinny to say the least, although I do have a little bit of a gut.. Im fairly active and ride a bicycle from time to time, like once a month.. I just joined a gym and want to get serious about working out. My goals are first to become healthy cardio wise, I want to get my breathing right, then I would like to focus on toning out and then puttingon some muscle. Im not sure if thats the right order, but hopefully someone will inform me if not. I have a good frame for it plus I have plenty of time and I am goal oriented. Im open to any suggestions you guys may have. I was wondering what you guys would do if you were me, are there any fast track plans to get this started. Just needing a little help to get started, Im definitely no fitness guru, but I am a good learner.

There is no right order for working out. It depends on what you want to start with/target. First, begin with your nutrition: see if you're eating right, in terms of importance 80% is nurition and 20% is exercise.

Since you want to target your cardio-vascular abilities, hit the treadmill. High-intensity running will significantly improve your CV. With that you'll notice that you'll drop a rapid amount weight at first (if you run regularly). Most of it will be water. That's because you'll start burning lots of Carbs with this running and carbs hold your body water.

Now, low-intensity running will target your fat, mostly, overall less calories lost than high-intensity, but more fat burned, perhaps that will get rid of your belly + crunches to increase the abdominal muscles.

Along with that, some light exercises wouldn't hurt. Perhaps 3-4 sets for each exercise with 12-15 repetitions. Be muscle specific, avoid compound exercises in your case (exercises that combine more than 1 muscle groups) to achieve that tone.

Exercise first, running after in my opinion, unless you have the stamina to run before. Either way exercises + low or high-intensity running should do the trick. Exercising + low-intensity running should get you toned faster, but you'll have less cardio improvement. Exercising + high-intensity running will be more catabolic (breaking down) to your muscles, but cardio will be better.

All in all, if your eating is improper, then you'll end up wasting your time at the gym. Bottom line = nutrition above all.:)
