Hi there! I am new to the weight loss forums. I am 18 years old 5' 3" and 205lbs. I was never over weight until I got on Depo birth control about a year and a half ago and now I cant seem to lose weight for anything. I work out 5 days a week for atleast an hour, I eat better than I used to, and cut out pop completely and still can't lose a pound. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Hey and welcome!

I would suggest that you start taking a record of everything you eat for a week - be honest with yourself when you do because you cant make a proper change if you are not aware of the problem ;)

At the end of the week you should be able to see which meals are having the most calories, where you are getting most of your carbs, and anything that has high fat.

It sounds like you are doing enough exercise - so hopefully being more in control with your food intake will make a difference. Have you spoken to your doctor about whether it is the shots that are causing the problem? Maybe there is an alternative birth control you can be on that doesnt cause the weight gain?

Good luck! I look forward to reading about your journey!! :hurray:

Thank you for the advice, I have actually been off of the shot for almost a year now and not using any kind of birth control. I did see my doctor thinking I may have some kind of thyroid problem and he said the weight loss is probably from the depo and they did blood work and said my thyroid was perfectly fine. I also just had my gall bladder out in January so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I agree with what Ash said above, start recording everything that you eat and the time that you eat it... See if you can see any 'bad' habits or places where you could make some healthier or lower calorie choices.

That was my first thought. I'm not saying that the birth control is the only reason for the weight gain (or lack of weight loss, I should say), but it very well could be part of the problem.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. I would recommend reading through the sticky posts on the forum, which are full of a lot of helpful information on a lot of different topics.
