New and in need of motivational friends

Hey, I'm Laurel and I am a 24 year old female. I have been on different diet plans and exercise routines for a long time. This fall, I was doing great and got to really close to my goal weight. Then, I decided to have fun before I left for the Navy. In the Navy, I got injured and had a hospital stay, which got me discharged. I refrained from exercising for awhile and the depression of getting me discharged made me not care about what I ate. Anyhow, 20 pounds later and I decided to get back on track. So far, I am doing well, but hate going at this alone.

If anyone wants to be my motivator or is in need of support, as well, message me. I know a bit about exercise and diet, I just can't stick to it.

Thanks and Good Luck,
Laurel

Welcome to the site...

Why do you think you can't stick to a plan? most people's reasons are generally that they put themselves on too restrictive a plan and end up depriving themselves.. .or have completely unrealistic expectations about what their results should be and get frustrated... but each person is different.

Motivation comes from within you - so you might want to come up with a list of why you want to lose weight... the real reasons.. the ones you don't want to say outloud :D Just remind yourself of them on a daily basis.

Read around the forum - especially the stickied threads -there's a ton of food information available to you... and enjoy your stay

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I really think that I lost all of my ambition, this fall, because I was getting scared about going into the Navy. I was not too hard on myself, then. I worked out a lot, then I met a guy and ended up spending all of my time with him. I was just being stupid. How long have you been a part of the site? What plans do you use?

Now, I am hating that I cannot exercise as much as I was. I have to remind myself that I need to take baby steps. I don't want to end up in the hospital again.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to read the threads.

Laurel welcome!
As far as I gathered from my 3 odd months on board here, is that most people are not on plans or diets here, we have changed our lifestyle, our eating habits and do portion control. Plus of course fitness. Whichever sport goes with you or gym or running or walking or swimming... you chose. I think that if this is a change for life you need to find a sport you enjoy doing! If you drag yourself to an aerobics class you hate for 3 months, once you have reached your goal you will stop and stopping you may pile the pounds on again!

The reasons thing mal talked about it great: I have 10 positive reasons (not starting with not or don't) for my weight loss and I have certain images, of clothes, of how I want to look, in my head that i focus on when the elliptical is being mean to me! Or the chocolate smiles its ugly smile too many times in 1 day!

Write down how much you weigh now, how much you'd like to lose, in how much time, and what you think you need to do differently to reach this.
In my case I needed to change my diet anyway because I have discovered I have serious issues with certain foods, so I now live gluten free and (when possible) lactose free. I try to control my portions and eat healthy foods (fruit for breakfast, salads and stuff for lunch, fish and veg for dinner), try to go to the gym 3 or more times a week (6 would be ideal, but I am a realist), and try to do little changes to my everyday life that will aid me in this. Like walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator, or walking when the distance is short anyways, etc...

Read through the stickies and you will see, you'll find motivators in no time, once you have a clear plan of action and have opened your diary!

Camy,
Thank you for the advice. My main problem has always been emotional eating. And just being lazy. I miss not having my license because I did walk everywhere. Although, now it would be hard because I live 30 miles from work. I want to get back into my hours of exercise a day. I should be able to do that again soon. At least, I am cleared by doctors now. I do know how to eat well, I just like counting my calories. I am a bit obsessive. Anyhow, I will be sure to check out the threads.

Thank you again,
Laurel
