New and a little concerned about weight loss

Hi everyone!
I'm excited to be here and just wanted to introduce myself and give you a small (I hope) history.

My name is Terri and I'm 23. I am actually in recovery from an eating disorder for about 2 years now. I know it's strange for me to be on this site, so let me explain why. I injured my back a while ago and have been suffering from two herniated discs with nerve damage. Due to the nerve damage, I am on medication that causes me to gain weight. I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder that causes hypothyroidism. I am on the correct medication for that, but I am still struggling with my weight.

I am not on here for eating disorder tips/tricks/etc. I am on here because I want to lose weight and I want to do it the right way, not how I did so many times before. I understand that the process will be slower than it was with my eating disorder, and I am okay with that. I would just like some support on losing weight the right way, and I hope that everyone here will not judge me for my past behaviors or think that I am going to fall back into them.

On a lighter note (no pun intended :p), I am happy to meet everyone and wish you all good luck!

I wish you the best of blessings, and I hope that you will overcome these obstacles in front of you.
I will share with you some psychology on how I lost 55 lbs. in the last 8 months:

Write a journal of all food intake as well as times you ate them
Write down a list of reasons you want to lose weight (positive affirmations). Post it on your bathroom mirror
Write down a list of reasons you don't like being overweight
Set short term goals/ long term goals (My short term goal was to vacation in Key West/ Long term is Yoga instructor)
Make a financial commitment to these goals so that you won't back out of them

This seems a bit cheesy, but I really needed this to lose weight. I always told my friends if I can change my mind, I can change my body!!!!! And I did

Hey there,

I am not that active on the forums as i would like but i can tell you that you will not find some quick easy fix to it. I can vouch to the popular notion that if you eat less than what you burn (calories) you will lose wait. I am inactive when it comes to any sort of physical activity but have understood the idea behind food intake and what a difference it makes.

Feel free to check out my diary and you will see that you can drop the weight without training for any marathons :) What i found that from an average day i used to consume anything up to 3000 calories on any given day. Since setting up an account on MFP and seeing what is going in has made a huge difference.

Fad diets, been there done that (don't seem to work long term).

Understand what foods and their amounts make a difference and you will do well.

Regards
Rob
