Never ate good for an entire week straight before.

I'm 46 and have struggled with weight on and off for many years. I lost about 70 lbs in my early 20's and kept it off for about a decade or so but slowly creeped back on. I have been trying the past number of years to get in shape and have yo-yo'd on and off probably 200 lbs or so. I've been very depressed and felt like a loser. Everyone in my life is getting in shape and losing weight, really shined a light on my problem. I joined the gym and got a trainer, I spoke with the gym manager and said I wanted someone to hold me accountable and really help me. So he gave me this dude Ken. Ken is awesome and really triggered something in me that had been lost for a long time. He made me open an account at myfitnesspal.com and log all my food. I would never have been willing to do that in the past, I just always thought I couldn't be that strict. But it's actually easy, the site has every food on earth logged in so you just click on what you ate and it gives you the cal, carb, fat and protein count on the food and subtracts it from you daily intake based on your stats, goals and the amount of exercise you did that day. It is so easy, I gave the trainer my log in info and he checks up on me everyday and shoots me texts. So cool. Anyway, I have stayed within 100 cal of my daily intake everyday for a week and lost 8 lbs. Whoa. I know it's the first week so the weight is flying off but still, I am amazed at how light and healthy I have been eating.

So I started at 263 lbs earlier in the year and was 254 lbs last Monday and was 246 today. Actually only 6 days. I took a video and pics on Monday so I got some real scary before stuff. 5'9" @ 254 = ouch!

Anyway just wanted to post this and jump on the forum, I have been a longtime lurker around here, I love the before and after section. My first big goal is to be under 200lbs by Easter. I want to go home and look better, my past few trips home have been a little painful.

Congrats on the great first week, buddy! Losing 8lbs in your first week is great, yes it may slow a little, but you're starting off great! Keep it up :)

MyFitnessPal.com is a solid tool for tracking your food, that's what i recommend to the clients at my private studio also and it works like a charm! Best food tracking tool I've seen. The exercise section is a little weak I find so we mainly use it for the food section.

Anyways, keep up the great work and hope to see you break that 200 mark by Easter....or before! :)

Thanks man, yeah I'm just using the exercise section to estimate calorie usage for the day. I just ended the first week, I feel so much better already.

Congrats on taking the major steps to take control back of your life. I was probably about your build at one time..just a bit taller and heavier. I am around 205 now and been holding that for a few months. I am getting ready to go for the 195 I told myself I wanted in the beginning. The way it looks it might have to be 190 lol

Your weightloss will slow down some but don't let that get to you. Stay focused. Even if you stumble, don't stay down, pick your butt up and get back on track! Learn from your mistakes and keep going forward.

Tell yourself you will NEVER weight in the 250's again and mean it! Once you break 240's..same thing. Take it one day at a time and one pound at a time and by Easter I am sure you will have something to be proud of.

Just don't give up!

Excellent advices. I sometimes look in the mirror and tell myself that out loud : NEVER gonna go backwards. I will kill you!

MFP is indeed amazing but I like these forums a lot better. Everything moves waaaaay too fast in theirs and stuff gets buried really quickly and its hard to get to know everyone.

Oh and 5'9 at 254? That's not NEARLY as bad as 5'4 @ 256 (stupid Asian genes). Haha so take that as a form of consolation if you will :)

Thanks guys. I actually found an old weigh in video from a few months ago and I was 263 lbs, that was my heaviest. I weighed in this morning at 241 lbs. So a total of 22 lbs. I've logged everything I've eaten into myfitnesspal for 24 days now and have been within 200 calories above or below except 2 days. My folks are in town and we went to eat at my favorite Italian restaurant tonight and I ordered grilled chicken and broccoli, absolutely unbelievable. I stared at my friends lasagna like it was life support.

I think my biggest realization from logging my food is that I have to eat 90% of my meals at home or bring home cooking with me. Restaurant food is a looser. The calories are just to high and it's really hard to keep your meals at 300 to 400 calories even if you order light and healthy. So I have really committed to preparing most all my meals. I also quit diet soda 3 days ago, I'm done with it.

Anyway, that's where I'm at, I watched the 263lbs video today, whoa I look like I'm gonna explode! My goal is to do my after video and pics April 4th and post them. It gives me a little over 4 months, my goal is to be out of the 200s by April 4th. The saga continues....

You are right about restaraunts. Stay away from them for the time being. Or at least that is what I did. Also I quit the diet soda. It seemed to help, actually I have cut out all artificial sweetners. I am not saying you have to but in my mind it seemed to help. Whether it did or not I have myself believeing it does and no need to put them chemicals in your body if you don't have to.

Also something that I really think helped me, was I looked at this for a lifetime. I can go out to eat once in a while now and I still hold my weight just fine. But I couldn't do that and lose weight. I know and understand that now. I also abused fast foods. I never eat at them anymore. Remember learning how to maintain your weight once you get there is part of the experience of losing weight...just pay attention to how your body reacts. It is all part of breaking these bad eating habits.

But do it all right and learn and you will be able to hold that weight once you get there. To maintain I only exercise 3 times a week for about 20 minutes or so and keep my calories around 2200 a day with maybe one cheat meal a week. When I want to lose I up it to 5 days exercise and go back to a strict calorie count. Takes about 1600 a day and the 5 days of exercise for me to drop about 2 lbs a week.

Everyone is different. But the basics are all the same. Just learn your body as you go, once you get there you will have the knowledge to stay there ;)
