Need to lose weight

loseweight

New member
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section but i have a huge problem. I have developed man boobs and they are just getting bigger and bigger. I tried going to YMCA, and tried running on the treadmill to burn off weight but everytime i get on the treadmill, I get extremely tired in just 5 minutes or less. What kind of foods or fruits do i need to eat to get energy to be able to run on a treadmill for at least half an hour? And also, which excercises do i need to lose these man boobs? Please I'm in desperate help.

You need to focus on weigh loss overall in order to lose your "man boobs". To do this, you need to focus on eating fewer calories. With the treadmill, don't worry so much about being able to run for 30 minutes, that will come with time. For now, do the bike, elliptical, or walk at a fast pace and slowly add in a little running. Depending on how much you weigh, running is going to be a lot harder and you can possibly hurt yourself (I still cant run because the pressure of the pounding on my knees hurts them, but as I lose weight, this pressure will diminish and I will be able to run more). That is my little bit of advice. You might get more responses if you introduce yourself in the Newcomers section and start an online journal that way you can keep track of what you are eating and your exercises.

Welcome LoseWeight!

yes man boobs can be frustrating somtimes. We all have fat in different areas of our body and genetics dictate where that fat is. some people have it more in the gut, others have it more in the theighs. You simply have it more in the chest.

first off know that they will go away as you lose weight. don't get cuaght up in looking for special exercises to lose fat in that area, it just doesn't work that way.

Im a big fan of fruits myself. i stick to high fiber fruits like apples, pears and so on. As a generl rule of thumb, the firmer the fruit the more fiber it has. I also like Bannanas too.

I highly recommend doing some basic leg strength exercises to help keep your legs strong so you can run faster and longer. Strength means endurance especially as you are starting out. I would recommend a ground based exercise like Lunges as opposed to anything you might do on a machine. That way its much more related to real activity.

Well, running is always pretty hard for beginners.
Maybe you should try walking on a treadmill in the beginning. Try to walk 5-10 minutes and look how you feel. It's very good to increase your walking time every 2-3 times or every week. So, for example first 5 minutes, second week 7 minutes and so on. It's good to walk until you can walk 50 minutes. When you are really ready to run. It won't be hard to run 10 minutes.
Of course, there's nothing bad to combine running/walking. For example, 1 minute walk, 4 minutes running and do this two times.
You can try these two things and look how you feel after that. Maybe just waking or run/walk is good for you :)
And one more thing: a lot of beginners do one very big mistake - they start very fast and they get tired after one minute or even sooner. You have to begin very very slowly, don't lose your breath. You should be able to keep a conversation when running. Try this :)
Good luck.

+1 to the walking.

You gotta walk before you can run.

I used to be an athlete and a very fit soldier. Years of gaining weight put that into remission. When I got into losing the weight I had to start at a pace I could handle for at least 30 minutes.

I would suggest picking a speed you can do for 30 minutes. Go with that for awhile at least 5x a week. You will know when you can bump it up. Remember, there is no shame in someone who walks on a treadmill.

After you start getting into better shape you can do some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Warm-up for 5 minutes at a brisk walk, then run for 1 minute, walk for 2, run for 1, walk for 2, and so on for 30 minutes. Use the last 5 minutes to warm down.

Once I started HIIT I saw the losses dramatically increase. At first I would run at level 6 for a minute. After 6 weeks I run at level 9 for 2 minutes.

Another thing I found to really work well I changing-up your treadmill routine. After warm-up I sometimes will run at a good pace for 5+ minutes and then start the 1 min run, 2 min walk. Other times I will shorten the walk to just 90 seconds. I like this approach because the workout does not get stale and boring. Plus, I like to "trick" my body. The weight loss has been fantastic.

I too was developing man boobs. After months of eating right and exercising like a freak they are gone and I have my pecs back. I am down 39 pounds and I feel great!

As for eating, this site is such a valuable tool for you. I love to read what real people are doing as opposed to reading something by an author.

What I suggest is a mix of cardio and weight training. I do cardio one day, lift the next. I go 6 days in a row altering these then have a rest day. I eat approx. 1800 calories a day and consume 1 g. of protein for every pound I weigh. I also never eat after 7 pm except sugar free jello.

I will tell ya, it has been hard at times. But the more I lose the more determined I am and I do not have cravings to eat garbage. I can go to a social event not eat pizza, burgers, etc. I bring a banana and a protein shake with me.

Good luck brother!
