I have a ? I am going to start counting cali. and I wanted to know is it best to slowly lower them or is it ok to jump down to just 1200 a day. I am wanting to lose as fast as I can. Just unsure which would be best to do. My curent wt is 237. Any suggestions?

did you put the weight on FAST and overnight?

im going to guess no.. so take YOUR TIME or you will put whatever you lose back on with EXTRA

make a life change not a quick fix... their is no quick fix's

That is not correct.

There is no set caloric range for EVERYONE to adhere to for weight loss. It's a very individual thing. How many cals have you been eating? Do you have any idea?

I have no idea. I am sure it is way to many. I am not looking for a quick fix, but i would like to lose 2 pds a week. so what would u sugest just drop my calories need to maintaine my weight by a 1000?
Thanks for your help.

From past experiences, I was better off starting at
1800 calories, then adjusting from the results. 1200 is to low for me.

Carrie

Again, you can't throw out blanket numbers to cover large populations. Caloric requirements are completely dependent on individual circumstance.

You definitely want to take it slow or you'll find yourself being too harsh on yourself and falling behind. 1200 calories is quite low for many people. Your body needs calories. Try to focus more on healthy alternatives (i.e. apples instead of coffee cake, steamed veggies instead of fried, etc.) rather than calorie count. Incorporate exercise and moderation into your diet and you'll start seeing a difference in your energy and body composition. Wow, you've already had a fantastic start!

Assuming you are exercising, maintenance can be estimated at 14-16 calories per pound of body weight.

The heavier you are, the lower your maintenance will most likely be and vice versa.

From there, I'd drop to 12 cals per pound for starters. If nothing is happening, I'd keep dropping systematically every week or two. If you find yourself having to go down to 8 calories per pound with exercise.... something is probably off.

There are many ways to go about finding a maintenance and there are many ways to creating a starting point for intake relative to weight loss. This is just one of them, probably the simplest.

I recommend doing some reading in the "words of wisdom" thread found in the "on topic" section of this website.

Hello

Don’t focus on a diet, focus on your nutrition. The important issue is what kinds of nutrients are in each calorie.

Focus on cleansing your body of the impurities that are already there. By flushing your body with nutrients, you can release many pounds of toxic fat. This also keeps you from loosing healthy muscle as you do when you diet.
On top of this, run 15 minutes after a workout four times a week and you should see the results you’re looking for. Best of luck

Are you suggesting that nutrients make us fat and calories do not?

thanks

Thanks everyone for the feed back. I have decided to see how many calories are needed to maintain my curent weight then take off a 1000. so for women it is mulit. 11x curet wgt. so 11x237= 2607 then -1000=1607. So I will try this and adjust then if i need to. Thanks again for all you help.

Where did you get that figure of 11?

Anyhoo, I don't see anything too wrong with that intake. It's low for someone your size, but if you can be consistent with it... so be it.

Your plan sounds good to me. You can always lower/higher your calories.

Thanks care180. yeah i figure if I needed more or less then i coud adjust. So far I feel that i am eating all the time and i still have a lot of calories to use.

No. I'm suggesting that toxins have a hand in making us fat by the defense mechanism of how our body protects itself.

I agree with you. If your immune system doesn't function properly, I can see how it can hurt losing weight. My daughter has Lymphedema, which is a disease of the Lymph system. Her body is all mess up because of toxins. Lymphedema patients do have a problem with losing weight because of their lymph system and immune system can't defense against how their body protects against these toxins. With an over-weight person, why not? They eat to much chemically processed foods filled with toxins. This is why, I am now eating natural foods.

Best Wishes,

Carrie
