Need some help for sister.

Hi,

I need a personal trainers remarks on this if you can.
I have a sister who is 4 months pregnant, she has never exercised before, and wants a sample of and exercise program, she is otherwise quite healthy. She needs things like intensity, frequency, time and name of exercises to do.

I'm not qualified but she just needs some guidance. Thanks so much.

4 months pregnant is a bad time to be starting a fitness program, AFAIA. If she insists on it, find her an exercise physiologist - that's a pay grade above PT. Whatever she does, she'll have to make sure she doesn't overheat herself. 10min light-to-moderate activity followed by 10 min rest, repeat, is probably not a bad way to go, but I don't give those guidelines as any sort of authority on the matter (again, see an ex phys). It's important to avoid overheating because she can radiate her excess heat out into the air - the fetus cannot.

I agree that 4 months into pregnancy is NOT the time to start exercising if you have not already been all along. She definitely would want to talk with her doctor AND work with someone who specializes in working with pregnant women.

She may also want to look in to a program called Stroller Strides that has programs for pre and post natal mom's, and see if there is one in her area - joining something like that would allow her to be with others in her same situation.

Good luck to her.

It would be wise to consult with her doc first and get some guidelines on what she should and shouldn't do. Then seek out programs or qualified professionals like exercise physiologists to help her with the specifics.

It's been over a month since the original post... has your sister started an exercise program yet?
