I noticed deadlifts was an option.. would that be the best alternative..?
 
I dont have machines.. i have a bench.. dumbbells barbells and a few things attached to the bench..
 
Yes, thats fine. The first exercise is with a BB. Put one end in the corner, load a coupla 45lb plates at the other end and start lifting :)
 
Db bent over row. Here the back is supported with the other hand. Makes it a lot easier.
The one with the bb is great for the lower back too ;) Just try both and you will notice the difference.
