Alright, so first things first

I recently quit smoking (1 year ago) and started gaining some weight. Not sure if its related to it or not. To combat this, i decided to start going to the gym with the money i have been saving.

Well, its working, I quit gaining weight.

The issue. I want to get rid of the weight i have put on since then, and a little more.

I'm 21 years old, 5'7 and 199.6 lbs according to yesterdays doctor visit. I went in to get myself checked out and talk to her about what i have been up to since i quit smoking. The end result is from what she can find. My blood pressure is perfect, lungs are in great shape, blood glucose is right where it should be. Cholesterol is a tad high, but nothing serious.

SO! for the past couple months i have been doing only cardio 6 days a week that i hit the gym. I typically jump onto the eliptical crossramp, and listen to music for about 30-45 min, keeping my heart rate in the ball park of 135-150 with the ocasional 170 thrown in there for 15 min or so on the days im feeling i have a little extra energy.

Over the past week and a half, i'v started to play around with the weight machines. Doing roughly 3 sets of 10-12 reps to where i struggle pretty good with the last one. I try to hit all upper body major muscle groups on day 1, lower muscle groups day 2, just cardio day 3, and then either, take 1 day break if im still sore, or repeat if im feeling good.

In a nut shell. thats all thats changed. Eating habits havent, and to be fair. Im not a star candidate..

I rarely eat breakfast (the past 2 weeks, i have simply grabbed an apple as i run out the door for work... 7am ), i have a box of Kraft Dinner, or a few pieces of toast and a few eggs, or 2 tomato and cheese sandwhiches for lunch.( 12pm) and then pig out on either fast food or some processed crap for dinner (which is normally once im off work, and get home from the gym.. 7-730pm) and then a snack around 9pm. which will consist of anything. whatever is appealing at the time.

Now, It was hard for me to make enough time to be able to fit in the gym. But im glad i did. and here is where (at least i think) my problem lies.

Im obviously not eating well, at all, and im pressed for time on making food from scratch. To top it all off, i have not a clue what "eating properly" really consists of. I dont know what i should be eating for breakfast, or what i can make for lunch in my 30 min break, or even my coffee breaks at 10am and 3pm (which on occasion ill have some toast and tomatoes, or something quick) I get mixed answers on what to have after the gym, and when to have dinner. And frankly i get frustrated and intimidated on what to do and just give up on trying to figure it out.

that needs to end. and im sure this problem arises all the time on these forums. But, if someone who has some experience can give me some info, or can provide me links to grocery lists. Quick and easy meal ideas. or even a book that they like. Or even give me some pointers of things to do at the gym.(trainers are pricey and im poor :p) Im all ears.

thanks to anyone who responds :)
