Need some advice please

Hi,

This is my first post and I’m not sure if I’m the right place but here goes.

I wanted to get some advice from people who no more about this subject than I do. Also, whenever I search the Internet I find it increasing difficult to get un-biased opinions.

I am a 25 yr old male who plays rugby at a reasonable professional level. I have decided this year to take things a little more seriously and so have started a program in the gym combining cardio work with mainly upper body strength training. I am using the gym 4 times a week for approx 1-2 hours each time. This will eventually (in 1 month) drop to 2/3 times a week and will only be for weights work as I will do cardio outside the gym.

I weigh 90 kilos and would estimate I am 4 kilos over what I should be given my body build.

I have also starting taking the following supplements that I would like people’s opinion on.

Tribulus Terrestris – 500mg 2 per day
Conjugated Lineolic Acid – 1000mg 4 per day

I know very well that there are no quick fixes to weight loss and muscle gain but I would like to know what people think about these supplements (good or bad) and if you would recommend anything alternative (both weight loss aids and strength and training/lean muscle aids)

My short term goal is to lose the amount of excess fat I have (cardio and the CLA) whilst working to my longer term goal of adding at least 5 kilos of lean muscle (weights and Tribulus). Not sure if I have the wrong idea and if I’m going about it in the wrong way.

Would appreciate any advice as I really am a beginner at all this level of training and the use of supplements.
 
If I remember right, it takes about 12grams of CLA (tonalin) daily in order to see any results at all from it.

You should be strength training your entire body, not just your upper body. You might head over to and check out the training article Westside for Skinny bastards (don't let the name fool you).
