Hi All

I need some help, i am not too sure whether i am going down the right track or not here.

I am male, 42 and on a recent business trip caught sight of myself in a mirror and decided that i needed to shed a bit of weight. I weighed myself and i was 13 st 4 lb which was quite surprising.

My food habits were a bit grim, no breakfast, sandwiches/crisps for lunch, decent size dinner, more crisps etc, you know the form.

Anyways, i have now started to have breakfast (cereal) in the morning, sandwich and banana (2) for lunch, same dinner as before and now i do some exercise. Currently i am doing 60 mins on my treadmill at home, this varies the speed from 4, 5, and 6 either miles or kilometers (not really too sure which one it is but when it do it a 6 its quite a brisk walk).

I weigh myself on Tuesdays after exercise and the first week i was 13.4, then last week i was 13.0 so i lost 4lbs in one week (not sure if that is good or not). I will be weighing myself tonight so fingers crossed i will be below 13 stone. I am 5''8"" in height so i need to be aiming for 12 stones i think.

One thing i need to motivate myself is to know how many calories i am buring, my running machine/treadmill reckons that i am burning about 120 calories per one hour session which i think is a bit low so i was going to look at buying a heart rate monitor thing to get a more accurate reading. Anyone have any experience with these? If so, any recommendations that would work on a treadmill?

Hmmm right i weighed myself on Tuesday night and not too happy with the results.

i was 13 stone dead last tuesday and this tuesday i was 12 stone 13 pounds and 4 ounces. Not much at all eh

I was doing some reading and the only real difference between these weeks is that the workout on the treadmill last week (second week where i lost nothing) was a bit harder that the first week. It appears (and i have no idea whether this is true or not) that there are levels of exercise, starts at fat burning (where i want to be), then up to fitness etc etc. I would guess that the workout i did in week 2 was in the fitness level. Is that likely?

Dont want to feel like i am wasting my time. i will continue as i did in week 1 and see what happens.
