need more lower abs!

lower abs are too small, well smaller than my upper abs. any idea of some good excercises that will target my lower abs? i mean i do my situps with a 30lb. weight above my head so the excercise will need to be flexible as far as adding weight goes... any input is appreciated!

hmm ill definitely do those hanging leg raises.. and get some ankle weights to help out too
THANK YOU! i needed that pretty badly... lol
its just, i have a 4-pack and a gut... which isnt cool... lol

Define "small." There are many reasons other than lack of stimulus (because separating the abdominal layer doesn't and can't really occur) to have a different appearance to the lower abdominals, including genetics and bf%

Good luck!! :D

sigh... okay what all these people just told you are all technically WRONG.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

There is no lower or upper ab, the abdominal rectus is one layer of muscle, extending is one muscle, not one part upper and one part lower.

You simply have more fat down there than you do up. Watch your diet, up your cardio, and keep up your ab exercises but dont' overtrain. Good luck.

So what you are trying to tell this person is there is no point to doing a variety of ab exercises? You make it sound as though you can do just one exercise and fully develop the abs which is TOTALLY WRONG. You cant tell me that if you do hanging leg raises your lower abs dont burn alot more than the upper or do crunches and the upper abs burn more than the lower.

enough arguing haha... i dont know what my BF % is but im not too sure i care... im like 5'10" and 140-145 or so lbs... i used to be 160 and i definitely gained a lot of muscle so id say im doing pretty good... maybe ill just cut down on portions a little and spread out my diet and double up on treadmill time.. and drink more water lol

Are you f**king retarded??! It says in your sig that you are a personal trainer. Do you not even know the human body? How the hell did you get your personal trainer certificate? Wait do you even have one? THERE IS NO UPPER OR LOWER ABS GET THIS THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL. The abdominal rectus known as the "abs" is a SINGLE SHEET of muscle. There are no "upper" or "lower". I JUST explained this.

ANYONE who has any knowledge in bodybuilding KNOWS that abs are made in the KITCHEN, NOT in the gym. Skinny little asian kids who weight 100 pounds have 6 pack abs that show when people who work out their abs with 100s of crunches, use insane ab machines dont' have abs that show BECAUSE their body fat is covering over their abs. What some people don't know is that EVERYONE has 6 pack abs. They may be made up of weak muscles but they are there. The only thing stopping from being shown is the body fat.

I AM NOT SAYING THAT DOING VARIATION OF AB WORKOUTS WILL NOT GET YOU SIX PACK ABS. Working out your abs do make your abdominal muscles get bigger so it will help them come out more but the FAT will still be there to cover it up. However i have only been doing 3 sets of 15 reps of decline sit ups and i have absolutely AMAZING abs that are shown perfectly along with obliques on the sides. Why? Not because I do insane amount of situps, because i do proper cardio and eat healthy food that keep my body fat down.

I am sorry that i have used profanity and may have offended soem people but Jesus, this guy's suppose to be a TRAINER and he doesnt' even know that the abdominal rectus is just ONE sheet of muscle!! Unfrigginbelievable.

I can't speak for azz_dragon, but there is a reason to switch up ab work. At some point the muscle will adapt to the stress to the point it's not stresses anymore. Switching it around will induce a different synaptic firing, stressing the muscle differently.

But one thing is certain, you can't build up different regions of the same muscle.

My workouts in NROL used swiss-ball crunches and reverse crunches. They also use hanging leg raises, incline reverse crunches, supine hip extensions, etc, etc, etc.

Change it up every 1-2 months.

God, it's turning into a pissing contest again. Dragon...LBT...quit bitching like an old married couple.

Simple truth is...even though abs are one muscular structure, you still have to hit them from a variety of angles for them to develope symetrically. You "lower" abs won't be as defined as your "upper" abs if you don't do leg raises, reverse crunches, etc....just like doing flat bench along with incline bench. Got it? Good...

Only way to see them is to keep your diet in check along with a proper workout. Plain and simple.

How about we put it as simple as this:

_i_
_i_
_i_

Let's say that is your abdominal muscle. Despite the fact that it looks like 6 different muscles, it is actually one. Each part of the muscle is defined different due to the strain put on it.

People who emphasize on exercises like incline crunches put more of a strain on the upper part of the rectus abdominus, and thus growth in that area seems to increase and when it is rebuilt, it is rebuilt with slightly more muscle. Same thing with hanging leg raises and the lower part of the rectus abdominus. It is still one long muscle, but the strain on different areas help shape the muscle, which is why muscles on two different people (such as the rectus abdominus) cant be shaped the exact same.
