Need more energy, healthy approaches?

Hey guys :)

1st off awesome board!

Im really curious about everyones approaches to needed extra energy. I havent had as much of a problem lately because my diet has been stabilizing for the last 6+ mos. but hey I sure wouldnt complain if I had a tad bit more energy. I started drinking redline energy drinks b4 workouts and that sure did the trick but I have weaned myself off of that and basically just have a couple cups of coffee every morning now. Im doing pretty good on my energy levels during workout time but whats really frustrating me is I dont have alot of energy left after workouts  I work out early in the morning usually and try and get the blood pumping. My diet consist of a bowl of oatmeal every morning with blueberrys and flax seed. usually something lite for lunch like a salad or turkey sandwich (gotta be quik and easy) and then I usally eat a full course dinner that is usually chicken or fish (sometimes beef) and a side dish of veggies and of course a desert :) I will admit I usually eat heartily for dinner as its usually the only time I have w/my family and its very laid back and relaxed w/plenty of good stuff (mostly healthy too) Im thinking I should adjust my diet to have more protein during breakfast (just dont want to kill my workouts) and maybe a bit more during lunch?

P.S. I take 1 maranga herbal pill 1 hr. b4 workout which consist of
400mg ginkgo
400mg eleuthero
100mg guarana

Thanx for your ideas.

Rocky

your topic is energy and you do not mention sleep.

I hit the sack at 9:30, or so. Sometimes a bit later now that I am trying to keep up with this fitness board and log. I get up at 6:-6:30. That gives me 8 hours a night! And I am a dynamo on energy. I do not watch any T.V.

T.V.?
what is the last thing you put in your brain at night?

You should feel full of energy if you are getting a good amount of sleep and proper nutrition. You should try taking more meal opportunities, and eat every 2-3 hours.

I would move away from all caffeine, if you wanted to get into something herbal you could try ginseng. But its really all about nutrition and sleep.

I agree with both of these guys, no doubt. Anything other than nutrition and rest is not a real, solid adjustment. Caffeine, or any herbal supplement can't beat eating right and sleeping a good amount.

Caffeine will sap your adrenal glands and prevent you from having sustained energy throughout the day. You don't mention if it is physical energy or mental energy you require. When I drink coffee, I often notice I lose focus and am not able to concentrate later in the day. I agree with the others, you should cut out caffeine altogether. i did this and noticed increased, sustained energy within about a week.

hmmm....Id say you guys pretty much nailed it :) Sleep and caffeine are probably it. I usually get 7-8hrs a nite but its been closer to 6.5-7.5 hrs a nite lately and naturally a tad bit more caffeine which is creating my catch 22  Im still gonna try and mix up my diet just a tad. As far as it being mental or physical energy that I want its a bit of both I would like but I would say more so on the physical energy. I do believe im in my fine tuning process right now (im @ 14% body fat) and greatly appreciate the response's guys!
