Need help with SPEED!

again i am a Muay Thai fighter and speed is a killer factor in MT. I think i have good speed but i was wondering if there are any exercises you guys do to speed train or whatever... Any suggestions would be great thanks!

They say explosive weight lifting, but I don't find myself doing that much. I would just practice the techniques again and again, faster and faster. Not much help I am afraid, but that's what I do, lol.

interval speed training..

do it either on a bag at different points in bursts of 200 rep sprints and shoot for different angles or destinations of your strike... do the different spots you want to strike as their own sets and then chop it up and mix them in to varied strike destination sprints of around 30 seconds each or 200 reps.
if you don't have acess to a bag, use a wall for a focus point. don't actually make contact but use the wall as your opponent and try to aim for diffrent places on what would be their body. It's a shame you don't know pressure points ( or do you??) ..awwwesome way to do that..
I think amazon.com has some really good charts available for maybe $30.. I can't tell you the difference it makes to your speed and game in general..having that better focus of where you're landing things exactly to a fine precision is a great tool. google on Earle Montaigues Dimmak charts.. if you're interested and can't find it,i'll get you a direct url later..i was going to re-order them myself soon anyway..

If you can get hold of an abdoer aswell ( , doing sitting lateral twisting the same sets and sprint pace, varying as above is another extremely effective way to work your speed drills... and you get 12.5kg resistance on each rep.

they cost $300 aus ish but definately worth the purchase.

cheers

if you want speed, what blooming lotus said is good advice! If you want to work on speed in the free weight pit aswell, you would do power cleans, power snatch, jump squat.. stuff like that.

hang a piece of paper by a string and punch it.
also check out i think my teacher has a few things about speed on his website. and if you check out the video of me gettin hit in the nuts you can see thats hes a fast mothafu$$@

What sort of speed are u talking about cos no1 has even asked yet. are you talking about the speed of 1 particular attack, overall speed, or reaction speed?

you can increase your speed of a particular movement by not only practicing it, but by practising the motion before and after it aswell.

Your speed will improve when your body learns to flow into the motions you want it to, and doesnt have to wait around for your brain to tell it what to do.

Weight training is also important, Not just for getting stronger, but so that you are farmiliar with pulling and pushing heavy weights.
