Need help with infured hand

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I can help my hand heal faster and better. I was taking a slapshot exactly 8 days ago and when I connected with the puck I felt a poping sensation on my right hand between my thumb and the palm of my apparenltly weak ass hand. I'm so pissed off I can't even put it into words. I hit the puck so hard that I shattered the glass. Being a true stupid male, I just kept playing because it did not hurt to bad. I just got back into the sport and I was so psyched to be back on the ice that nothing was going to stop me.

After the practice I was taking my gear off and saw that my hand was swollen some, and it was stiff. I figure its a sprain which I have never had happen to my upper body that I know of. So I ask around and everyone tells me it is a sprain and not to do anything complicated or tough on my hand for like 3-4 weeks. 3-4 weeks???? Seems like bullcrap to me, because its just some wussy minor sprain and doesn't really hurt. I see guys play with broken bones and knocked out teeth ect ect, and the people in the health industry tell me nothing but don't put any stress on it for 3-4 weeks. I know in the grand scheme of things its a lame injury but with my luck if I do play I will make it even worse and I don't want that to happen.

Will taking more chondritin/MSM/Glucosamine help? What can I do to prevent this in the future?? Can I still go to the gym or will weights be a bad idea? If you guys have any pointers I would appreciate it. I'm going crazy because if its not sports or the gym, the only other thing I have to do is watch 24, and thats one hour of one day....

Thanks...
